Has anyone else heard this? How do you feel about patronizing a french owned theme park?

I don't know. How do you feel about patronizing a park founded by a member of the American Nazi Party?

The absurdity of my statement reflects that of yours. To chastise a theme park simply because of on an old rumor is just as ridiculous as doing the same because of its parent company's nationality.

It's disturbing how eager some Americans are to be hateful. Some of us are too happy to jump at the opportunity to condemn an entire group of people for whatever reason. When terrorists attack, we have the audacity to cluelessly wonder "Why do they hate us so much?” yet it's so easy for us to hatefully denounce an entire country, it's people, companies and culture, just because their sovereign government’s foreign policy slashes with our government's.

If you still don't understand, then let me put it this way. The World Showcase in Epcot has a French pavilion! Disneyland has New Orleans Square, full of French influence! There's a Disney resort in France! You better boycott Disney too if you want to stay in line with the rest of the sheep.

I see a lock being put on this thread as well. But Kevin, d a m n, that's well said!

Yeah, I'm hoping this gets locked. This isn't the type of thing we should be discussing here. But I just can't stand people who come on here, who seem to feel glee trying to instigate hate.

Some of them may just be trying to get a rise out of us, while others may be serious about it. I find the whole "Anti France" attitude that some people have is absurd. In a few years nobody will care about it *THAT* much, IMO.

Well, I think the people who are serious about it are the ones who are trying the most to get a rise. They need validation.

Does this mean I can't stay in the "French" Quarter of Port Orleans? Darn...and I just sent in my deposit!

*grabs a giant stamp that says "validated" on it*

I think this will help.

I see what you mean, but, from either side, I still think it's irrational. From what I've seen over on this side, this boycotting of goods has gone from being symbolic to bordering hateful. Instead of it being "We won't buy your country's products to express that we don't agree with your countries policies" to "We hate the French, so don't want anything French!".

I can almost understand it as a symbolic protest, but some of the same people protesting don't see it that way. Some people seem to just want to follow the crowd, and search high and low for anything else that’s in any way French for them to censure. Mob mentality almost.

Anyway, I still don't understand how punishing a private company is somehow a justifiable way of disagreeing with a government decision.

What's odd is, despite being partially French owned, there's no nothing French to be found at the Universal parks.

Kevin...

Missed this earlier, but what a great response.

Its true. Loved the sheep comment as well!

Not to sound stupid, but why? Because they simply don't agree with us and are standing behind that?

Agree with us or we'll hate you???

We saw a shirt the other day at Universal and it showed a bomber flying in the air (or something military, poised to strike) and it had a rough map of Iraq and one of France and it said, "Which one first" We chuckled (because our sense of humor is definitely sick  ), but seriously...it's sad.

I can almost understand the other countries protesting us, they are against our action, but the behavior is silly...and violence and destruction is immature and does nothing but make them look bad. Why do we want to look that way as well?

Karen :smooth:

Have to agree with you Kevin. As a Canadian going down to Universal (not even going near Disney) in three weeks, I cannot wait to support the travel industry, including the airlines, restaurants, hotels, Seaworld and any other services that I may encounter. If I were to boycott Universal, I would be boycotting the American and Canadian travel industries even more.

I don't understand those who feel that if the US has helped a country in one form or another then that country is forever indebted to the US and must agree with them no matter what. I hope this isn't what is to be expected of Iraq after it is liberated. Perhaps this is part of what many people are so upset about.

It's only 1/2 French owned. And I feel fine about it. I completely support our President and our military. But I don't see how boycotting French products is going to change a damn thing. Just like I don't see how stopping traffic in NYC is going to change a damn thing. I think the most important and patriotic thing I can do is go about living my life like normal while praying for a short and successful war. That's what our troops are protecting.
