Universal reports 1st Harry Potter ride injury

I can't believe those have to be classified as "injuries". Oh well, not the ride's fault other than those people probably shouldn't have ridden it to begin with :confused3

I don't see how becoming ill during a ride equates to an injury :confused3?

It's so they can establish a pattern down the road if necessary. It's obviously not a big deal if two people get sick on a ride over the space of a few months.

But if people are repeatedly getting ill on a ride, then there may be a connection -- but there's no way to know if people are repeatedly getting ill unless all illnesses are reported.

Same for injuries. Obviously, a 75-year-old woman who breaks her ankle on the Peter Pan moving platform is sad... but there's a good chance her age/condition played a role in it. But again, unless they report all injuries, there's no way of knowing if the Peter Pan platform snaps 2 ankles a week and therefore may be at fault... and so on.

Two people getting sick on a ride in a year doesn't sound like much. I can't begin to imagine how many people have actually ridden during that time.

hey,,,i only post em,,,lol

Your thread title is misleading though. The article is about the Forbidden Journey injuries reported in the first quarter of 2011.

Universal Orlando's year-old "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey" ride experienced its first significant guest injuries during the first quarter of 2011, according to new state records. Two people were injured after riding the attraction — a 60-year-man who suffered a brief loss of consciousness, and a 57-year-old man who suffered chest pains — between Jan. 1 and March 31, according to Universal's report to state regulators. They were the only guest injuries the resort reported for the period.

I agree. Even though the ride may be operating as designed, it's possible that the chest pains and unconsciousness might have been caused by the ride. If so, those people probably had no business riding based on the posted warnings (if they knew they had a condition that warranted concern), but people with undiagnosed conditions have gotten ill or have died on rides. It's good information to have, even if the ride is operating as designed and doesn't warrant a re-design. It doesn't mean anyone is at fault, but it's good to know how people have been affected (whether they were initially healthy or not).

My guess is they had underlying medical conditions that they 1) didn't know about or 2) ignored posted safety warnings
In any event, they have to report it as an injury.
