Universal Package deal vs buying separate

We're in the process of planning a 7 day trip (Oct 27 - Nov 3) down to Universal. Currently, I have a club level room reserved at PBH for the week. Now, when I look at tickets, either through undercover tourist, or on Universal's website, all I see are 5 day tickets. If I book a package deal, I can get the same room, but they offer a 3-Park Unlimited Ticket, which I can't seem to get anywhere else. There's basically no difference in cost (package is a few $ more, but 2 additional park days). Is there any reason to not just book the package and be done with it? Granted, we might not spend all 7 days at the parks, but it would be nice to have that flexibility? Is there a downside to the package deal?

With packages you're usually locked in and any potential change will likely be charged penalty fees or cancellation fees.

Whereas with the Hotel reservation separate, if the rate lowers it's easy to just call in and get your reservation adjusted (just the equivalent of cancelling your current booking and rebooking with a lower rate). You save yourself that flexibility.

You mean that’s as high I’m daya as they go? Yes, true now.

Do look into an AP, just in case.

If you know you’re going or will buy trip insurance for all nonrefundable costs and you want that 7 day and it’s a better price than an AP that will work for your trip, then do it. Just know what the charge is for changes etc.

I avoid packages as there are charges incurred when making any changes on them

You pay for them in advance prior to arrival

Make a change once you book and pay the deposit, pay $50 each time

Thanks for the suggestions! The annual pass may be a good idea. If we go that route, would there be a cost savings from purchasing, say 5 day tickets from undercover tourist and then upgrading to annual passes at the park?

Yes, indeed. After doing a bit of thread searching, it seems they allow you to upgrade 5 day 3 park tickets to 2 park annual passes for little additional cost. It seems odd to me they would allow that, I'll be curious to see what happens this fall.

Speaking of fall... is it generally even warm enough to go to VB at the end of October??

Hi I just upgraded my 5 day 3 park ticket to a 3 park power AP this August! It wasn't much more. However, if I wanted to downgrade to a 2 park AP it would have given me a refund of $50.00 per ticket. We wanted the three park because we love VB.

I think it is okay to go in the fall. I don' think I would go later than October though!
