GO-GO’S KICK OFF THE 2011

SUMMER CONCERT SERIES THIS SATURDAY​

Event Starts June 11 and Runs Every Saturday through July 16

Universal Orlando Resort’s 2011 Summer Concert Series begins this weekend and will feature the most dynamic musical lineup in the event’s history. Six hit artists – including Drake, Boys Like Girls and Third Eye Blind – will take center stage every Saturday night from June 11 to July 16.

The celebration kicks off with the legendary female punk-pop group Go-Go’s performing some of their most unforgettable hits on the Music Plaza stage. With more than three decades in the music industry and their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame being added this year, Go-Go’s helped pioneer the new wave era. The band has sold more than seven million albums worldwide, including hits such as, “We Got The Beat,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “Head Over Heels” and “Vacation.”

With a combined total of 30 platinum albums, this year’s concert lineup features artists who have each led the U.S. music charts and continue to be some of the most popular names in music today. The full lineup can be viewed below.

With more than 21 million albums sold in the United States and more than 20 hit singles, Nelly has been one of the best-selling artists and one of the most influential in the hip hop and rap genre since his solo career debut in 2000. His hits include early classics such as, “Ride Wit Me,” “Hot in Herre,” and “Shake Ya Tailfeather,” as well as his most recent hits “Just a Dream” and “Gone.”

Universal Orlando Resort’s Summer Concert Series continues this weekend with award-winning rock band Third Eye Blind live on stage on Saturday, June 25. Originally from San Francisco, the alternative rock band Third Eye Blind has sold more than seven million copies of its debut, self-titled album, which includes popular songs such as, “Jumper,” “Graduate” and “How’s It Going to Be.” Their most-recognizable hit single, “Semi-Charmed Life,” earned the band a Billboard Music Award for Modern Rock Track of the Year, and many of their hits have also appeared on soundtracks to popular films like, “Varsity Blues,” “Can’t Hardly Wait,” and “American Pie.”

With more than two million albums sold in the U.S., Trey Songz has written and performed smash hits like “Can’t Be Friends,” “Love Faces” and the multi-platinum single, “Bottoms Up” featuring Nicki Minaj. BET chronicled his musical career in 2010 in a widely popular, 10-part docu-series titled, “Trey Songz: My Moment,” which gave fans insight into his headlining music tour and the development of his fourth studio album. Named BET’s “Best Male R&B Artist” in 2010, Trey Songz has also collaborated with other chart-topping hip hop artists like Diddy-Dirty Money, Mary J. Blige and Drake.

Universal Orlando Resort’s Summer Concert Series is going to rock this weekend as platinum punk band Boys Like Girls takes the stage at Universal Studios Florida on Saturday, July 9. Originally from Massachusetts, Boys Like Girls has recorded hit singles such as “The Great Escape,” “Love Drunk” and their most recent hit, “Two is Better Than One” featuring country superstar Taylor Swift. The band participated in the first-ever MTV World Stage Live concert held in Malaysia and has toured with other hit acts like Good Charlotte, 3OH!3 and Third Eye Blind. They are currently working on a third album.

Named “Best Male Hip Hop Artist” by the 2010 BET Music Awards, Drake is one of only two musical artists to have his first two Top 10 songs occur in the same week. His first-ever studio album, “Thank Me Later,” went platinum with hit singles like “Over,” “Miss Me” and “Find Your Love.” The rapper has written for and collaborated with several other hit artists like Alicia Keys, Rihanna and Jay-Z, and he plans to release his second album, “Take Care,” in October.

This Saturday's Summer Concert by Drake cancelled.

From Universal Orlando's Press Release:

Universal Orlando Resort regrets to inform guests that Saturday’s Summer Concert Series performance featuring Drake has been cancelled due to a death in his family. Universal Orlando sends its condolences to Drake and his family during this difficult time.

Universal Studios will remain open until 9pm on Saturday night. Universal’s Islands of Adventure will remain open until 10 pm. There will be no substitute performance due to the last-minute nature of this development.

Drake’s representatives provided the following statement for his fans:

“We regret to announce that Drake will not be able to take the stage at Universal Orlando Resort due to a death in the family. He hopes that his fans understand the situation he finds himself in and know that he fully intends to return to the area in the future. He thanks Universal Orlando Resort and his fans for their continued support.”
