Universal Meal Deal

i was thinking of getting this meal deal for my husband and i for two of the days of our visits... but then i think i rather know i can just stop and eat anywhere i want and not have to worry about "is it covered on the meal plan" and besides i figured we would get a big breakfast at ihop (LOVE those stuffed french toast mmmm anyways anyways, back to what i was saying) and just eat snacks and lunch at the park and try for something out of the parks for supper or something... but! I was about to purschase the unlimited drink offer they had on their website for 8.99 but it wouldn't let me unless i got the meal deal... why? and the one thing i could not stand about WDW was that the only park that was "drinkable" was AK because you could buy those refillable mugs... i wished all the parks would do this. I was hopeing maybe US does have some kind of refillable mug??

thanks everyone!

i had a thread sometime back on the refillable mug....

if you buy any mug at universal, take it back with you for all future trips.

all Universal mugs are valid for refills. get it refilled at the cheap rate.

all stands will honor any UO mug and charge you the refill price.
if you have ap or aaa, also ask for the discount. hahahaha
its only a 10% discount but that's what i do. makes my refill drink $1.23.

buy a mug that has a handle, you can loop it on you with a strap so your hands are free.

i bought my mug back in the 90's and take it with me each year and use it for refills in the park. as long as the mug doesn't leak, it will be refilled by the employee.

i use the blue/ice dueling dragons mug that has the plastic hard cover and straw.
sponge bob is a kewl mug also.

....master of the refillable mug!

It does raise prices. Although I will say I saw people sharing their Meal Deals last year like crazy.

Wow! I started reading this thread to get info for our upcoming trip and was utterly shocked at the mean tones. I agree that it is wrong to break rules and it can cause deals to be pulled, but isn't there a more civil way of stating your case? Posts that are borderline for cursing are against rules as well.

IMHO, wasting food and breaking rules are both wrong. The rule of thumb should be to only buy what you can eat. If you are going to waste food with the meal plan, buying it and tossing good food away is just as wrong as sharing.

As someone who has done the meal deal, the meal and a movie, the 2 park meal deal and the DDP, I do not think I will repeat the US/IOA meal deals. I found the choices available and the participating restaurants too limiting. I'm a huge fan of US/IOA but this is an area where they have fallen way behind Disney. I would love to have a similar option to the DDP available with most of the CW and resort restaurants participating. Add that to fotl, and would there ever be a vacant room onsite?

Hey mom...If you go to the Universal Site to the Mastercard deal in HOT DEALS section they have the Meal Deal tickets for $14.99 for the adults. The childrens tickets are still $9.99 but this will save you $5 per adult ticket.

I agree with you to a point on Disney. However at Disney you only get 1 counter meal, one table service meal and a snack and the meal plans there are a lot more than Universals. My friend is going to Disney in April and she bought the Meal plan and she had to trade several counter service meals to get a character breakfast.

Melanie, yes the Disney plan is expensive but they do a much better job of including menu items and restaurants. I found that the US/IOA plan, because of its menu limitations really is best suited to teens.

Ah I gotcha. That is probably why it is so cheap at US/IOA. We dont care much what we eat when we are in the park. I dont think theme park food is really all that good anyway. We are going down for 6 days in June and we are going to buy the meal tickets for 3 of the days we are there. I am going to use the Mastercard deal for $14.99. Cant beat eating lunch, dinner, and snack for $15 bucks!

i like the burgers and chicken fingers at 2 of those resturants.

and i will bring my refillable mug, use the ap discount and get it for about $1.23 a refill
