Universal is taking advantage of Disney's weak spot

Wasn't so much about "Moderation" as it was wondering why I read through three pages of Universal attraction/hotel chat on the WDW part of this board. Then I looked at the Universal/Sea World Forums, heard the crickets, and understood why. :thumbsup2

Totally agree. As I said above, I looked at Universal/Sea World forum and no one posts there. My comment wasn't so much directed at you, OP, but generally at the people who spend their time on the WDW forum professing love for Universal, yet the Universal forum is comparatively empty. I feel like its more of a competition for them than a natural love to talk about Universal. JMO :goodvibes

Perhaps it's because UO is not causing earthshaking changes to Guest Touring strategy?

Perhaps because UO is incredibly easy to plan for with Express Pass?

Perhaps because on-site transportation is a piece of cake?

Perhaps because UO on-site hotels are true deluxe accommodations with value for the price?

And one more for your list...

Perhaps because these are the DISboards not the UNIboards. Even the Disneyland section sees much less traffic than this one.

Thank you for proving my point. If Universal is so great, why feel the need to post about it on a Walt Disney World Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies Forum? Unless you're trying to make it a competition or trying to prove a point to Disney fans. Regardless, I read way more about Universal than I want to on this particular forum. And yes, I can choose not to read those threads, but we all know that just like "All roads lead to Rome," all threads lead to why FP+ is terrible and why Universal is better. I'm sure the thread about Elsa dresses has already turned....

This thread also discusses how Universal is taking away market share from Disney. Those are facts. Did you listen to the podcast that Cyrano posted? It involves Disney so why shouldn't it be posted?

Disney is still the King of the World, but the Prince is growing up.

I posted in response to Op's premise since I have experience with both- trying to, perhaps, add value to the discussion.

Please feel free to do so yourself

It's a very valid conversation and many of the posters have, time and again, professed their love for both. I really don't feel we need to continually justify that.

I think with many on these boards, they almost feel like scorned lovers. Their true love is Disney, but they feel neglected and taken for granted. They are using Universal to *get back* at Disney...to make Disney *jealous* by saying that from now on they will be spending their hard-earned dollars at Universal.

All the while...they are just WAITING for Disney to come back on bended knee with wonderful new attractions. They both fall back into each other's loving arms...and poor Uni gets kicked back to the curb once again.;)

I hear ya. I'm not arguing that Universal isn't doing great things...whatever they may be. For a lot of reasons (I don't drive to Orlando, I fly = no car; DVC member; WDW AP holder) I will never go to Universal. Just not going to. So I come to this Disney forum to hear about Disney World. So I was just asking the question...why do I keep seeing these Universal-love threads on Disney World forums? Like was basically said by PPs, this isn't a Disney World Theme parks forum anymore. Oh well....I'll adapt. :)

Close. Except I won't hold my breath waiting for Disney to come back on bended knee with wonderful new attractions. And then there is the fact that Universal has offered me more recently.

p.s. Some of the Today Show people were on site this week filming in Diagon Alley. :)

I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous.

Universal is not a weapon. As shown by the few threads that have contained Universal discussion the last few days, many people genuinely love Universal because of what Universal is doing, not because of what Disney isn't doing. Those people are not limited to those who feel like "scorned lovers". Many people that would be considered by some as Disney kool aid drinkers also professed their love for Universal too.

People are capable of loving both for different reasons. People are capable of loving one and disliking another because of nothing else but personal preference. It doesn't always have to be a war between the two.

I believe I led with I "think" that "many" are of this mindset. I didn't even say "most", did I? To say that this theory is "ridiculous" when they are posting on WDW threads and not Uni threads is, in itself, ridiculous.

This is kind of ridiculous. Disney is just a theme park. Universal is just a theme park. I don't go to either one of them to feel love. I go to experience a theme park. At the moment, Universal is creating a better theme park experience in terms of attractions, heading over there to check it out and have fun is not to get back at Disney, it is to ride rides at a theme park period.

It's just so odd to me why this gets so personal. Why can you only love one? I love Disney and I love Universal. True I used to be more of a Disney girl than a Uni girl and now it's the reverse but it has nothing to do with what Disney did to "scorn" me. Universal just has something Disney does not have and will not be able to provide me with and that is Harry Potter. Nothing will or can compete with that but that doesn't change my love of Disney in the slightest. I just spend more time at Universal now because they have a product I want more than I want anything that Disney has. I still will go to Disney, I still do go to Disney, just not as much as I used to because of Potter being up the street. Luckily I don't have to choose, I can just go to both and have an amazing vacation.

I just don't see why you have to love one or the other. There is no contract that you can only love one or visit one. The whole idea of it is just mind boggling.:confused3

Don't be a hater. ;) Who is "they"?

I think implying that many people are vacationing somewhere they consider second best and saying they enjoy it simply because they want to stick it to Disney is ridiculous. Sorry. I believe every single one of those people when they say they love Universal, and I don't assume the love is only there because they're angry at Disney.

You started this thread comparing Universal to Disney, and now you're throwing around assumptions about the people posting in the very discussion you started? Not cool.

That's like assuming many people who love their local burger joint and talk about how awesome it is when people compare it to McDonalds only do because they're angry at McDonalds for hurting them (even though some of them really love McDonalds too). Crazy. Some people love McDonalds and the local place. That's valid. Some people hate McDonalds and love the local place (for reasons that have nothing to do with McDonalds). That's valid too.

NO doubt they are doing "well"

But Disney has lost 3.6% Market share ..

UNI has gained almost 5% increase in market share ...

This is since 2009.

Sure Disney still has 71% market share ... and they are doing "well" but, Universal is beating them down slowly. The numbers here really don't lie.

Actually, to have a more global view, if you want to talk numbers, the theme park with the largest percentage gains by far has been Disney's California Adventure...
