I haven't been to Universal in 20plus years. I was probably 18 when I went last. My child is now 8 and we have done Disney 3 times plus the Disney Cruise twice. Was thinking of doing 3 days at Universal when we come down to the beach. Is Universal good for an 8 year old or should I stick to Disney with her??

Also, does the dining plan include dining at the hotels or are all the locations inside the park?

Is 3 days enough??

Our first Universal trip was when DS was 6.5 (a tall kid, though) and he loved it. He loves it more the older and taller he gets; he can now ride everything except he can get psyched out by spooky things like The Mummy (finally got him on it this trip! woo!).

Info about the dining plans here: https://www.universalorlando.com/Restaurants/Dining-Plan.aspx

Be sure to click the Details links for each, and then locations are shown here: https://www.universalorlando.com/Restaurants/Dining-Plan-Locations.aspx

3 days is a good start for our family. ;)

Thanks for the info! I'm a little worried because she HATES loud noises and she doesn't like rides in the dark. She likes fast and drops. I'm just hoping these rides don't scare her to death! She is tall at 51 inches. So she's tall enough to ride.

For my kids, 42" was the height where the scales tipped to Universal from Disney. The 40" height requirement for Tower of Terror is what kept them from wanting to jump ship to Universal earlier.

When they hit 48", it wasn't even close. They never cared to go back to any Disney park after that.

Depends..If she frightens easily from dark and loud noises, I would wait, but that's me.Mine was 8 when she went and she didn't ride a lot of the stuff but still managed to have fun.It was a WHOLE different experience a year later.
AS for dining plan, it DOES NOT include resort restaurants.Just park and citywalks, and not all of them ( but most)

At 51" I think the only rides she can't do are Hulk (54"), Dragon Challenge (54") and Dr Doom (52"). The other big Coaster Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket has a 51" height requirement. At this point, is also small enough (under 56") to ride Pteranodon Flyers (You can ride with her people over 56" need someone under 56" to ride).

I highly recommend ear plugs. Get used to them now. They will make her time a lot easier. I sometimes wear them at Uni (especially when tired) and sometimes at Disney because the ambient noise really gets to me after awhile.

Even from the parking lot at royal pacific you can hear The Hulk coaster and it's pretty loud and weird. Earplugs might help her quite a bit.
