After our last trip to Orlando my family and I really enjoyed our time at Universal and vowed to spend some onsite time here on our next trip. I booked the Harry Potter Package which I thought was a pretty good deal.. $1000 for 5 night dec.21-26 ..but after our DVC dates were confirmed I wanted to move up our Universal stay.. I thought if those were their holiday rates it wouldn't be a big deal to change it to dec.24-29 instead.. but this change would result in a $1250 rate increase!! What!?? With our first reservation at $200/nt I was considering changing the reservation to 9 nights.. but not at that price!!.. I questioned the woman on the phone but she said she had no idea why it was higher and she couldn't tell me what day or days were making the difference.. I am hoping someone here can shed a bit more light on what dates I should pick to still get a great deal.. thanks!!

It isn't likely that any time at Christmas will be a good deal. Crowds look like they will be insane. Rates are great after the holiday break. You can go to www.loewshotels.com and check individual days during the break to find the best rates.

Thanks for the reply :) But I am pretty happy with $200/nt taxes and everything in.. including the breakfast and other Harry Potter extras I already have.. seems resonable for the dates.. I am already going at Christmas and I am looking at everything as being relative to the season we chose this time... so what I was really wondering is what day is throwing the price way up?? Ihave Dec.21-26 booked now for the rate I mentioned above but if I change to 24-29.. so in other words I was curious why after Christmas is so much more than before.. even more than Christmas itself!! seems weird to me.. :confused3... I have booked the Hard Rock if that makes any difference.. should I try another?

Makes perfect sense to me. More people have vacation between Christmas and New Years than before Christmas. Lots of people want to be home for Christmas but are happy to be away for New Years.

The week between Xmas & New Years is always the busiest and most expensive time of the year in Orlando. All of the rates are higher that week as the crowds are enormous. You had started out beginning your trip on the 21st, before that time. When you change to the 24th the rates will jump & stay there until after New Year's Day. You got a great rate at $200, if you are indeed staying on site, stick with that if you can. :wizard:

That's definitely a good rate! I'm locked in to dates of Dec. 26-29 since my daughters band is performing in the Champs Bowl. My rate for RPR is $334 per night. They did bump my room category up to water view, probably due to the loyalty program, but that's still insane! I'm trying to book Club level and there are no 2 queen room at any of the properties, just king rooms with a request for sleeper sofa or payan extra $25 per day for a cot. That just shows me how crazy busy the parks will be!
