Universal California Or Orlando???

what could be actually different about the rides when the mummy and shrek ones are so new?

I think orlando is better because of the open spaces , better places for pictures. but hollywood is a more locals park and more empty during off peak times.

but at the end ......a theme park is a theme park and i love them to death!

I've done both parks. The Mummy in Hollywood has the coaster going backwards and there are some different special effects. I like them both.

Well the Hollywood version is shorter. I'll just tell you what some team members told me. 4 team members who were on the opening crew at Mummy in Hollywood, came to Orlando to try out the Mummy here. They all still worked at the Mummy in Hollywood and this was when both rides had been open almost a year. They expressed that the Mummy ride in Hollywood did not measure up to the one in Orlando and also mentioned that they felt Orlando got the better ride since they have more people visiting their park. They also were given a backstage tour of the ride. They love their ride and the story line but were very impressed with the Orlando version. Now all of this happened before Mummy in Hollywood got an update with a few more effects added so that opinion may have changed.

I'm not sure attendance is the sole reason Orlando got a larger ride (I won't say better because I don't agree ;) ). Orlando's ride is in a much larger building, formerly used for King Kong. Hollywood's version was built in the former ET ride building, which is much smaller than the King Kong building in Orlando. Considering the size of the building, I am impressed that they packed so much into the Hollywood version. Space is at a premium in L.A., and Universal has a huge movie making business which I'm sure generates more money than the theme parks do. They appear unwilling to give up any more space for rides, so they replace instead of add.

Both versions are great and worth riding.

The story behind USF and USH Mummy are completely different.

FL = you're going to be on-set as extras for the railcar scene. The sets are cursed and you *somehow* end up in an Egyptian tomb where Imhotep is out to steal your souls. At then end, it turns out that it was all just part of the movie. Or was it????

CA = You enter an Egyptian tomb. During a solar eclipse, Imhotep regains his power. Only by *chance* does the sun break free of the darkness and Imhotep is quelled. For now.

Thanks for the input on the mummy versions. didnt know they were that differ.

so the california is better because it goes backwards? how can orlando one beat that?

Please point out where you got the statistics you are quoting. Where did you get the figure 98%?

It was a simple guesstimate based on the reactions I see on the many theme park sites I frequent. Praise for USH's Mummy is extremely rare.

Being a full minute longer? Having more dark ride scenes? Better animatronics? More intense coaster? Real fire? IMO, these are all more important than going backwards (which Orlando's does, but only momentarily.)

cool I cant wait to ride. last time i went to any universal orlando was right before islands of adventure opened. i think 10 years ago about?

the hollywood one i went 8 years ago in june.

Do you think we're a bit territorial? There seems to be a common theme here. East coasters prefer USO, & west coasters prefer USH.

I think the comment that it depends on what you're looking for is a fair assessment. I personally wouldn't walk 5 steps out of my way to meet a celebrity. So, I couldn't care less about current taping schedules. I did like DHS tram tour, when you went by the backlot exhibits. My family prefers having more rides, but a backlot exhibit would be a welcomed addition to USO. As long as you take a ride through the exhibit, of course. ;)

BTW, wasn't The Mummy, possibly the 1st one, taped partially in Orlando. I remember being there, when things were blocked off for taping. Have I lost my mind? :confused3 Wait..... don't answer that.

It's a fun ride and I'm sure you'll like it. :thumbsup2
