Universal being bashed by Disneyites!!

You are really obsessed with them huh? I've never seen the show, perhaps in honor of you I will have to check it out sometime.

:teeth: That is what happens when i'm up for like 16 hours straight...lol

Yeah check it out! ::yes:: I'd like that...in honor of me? Aw, shucks! :teeth:

I never saw any Disney bashing. Most of us who posted to that thread also love Disney. Heck, I moved to Orlando to be near WDW. I'm a pretty big Disney fanatic. We were just correcting some misconceptions about Universal.

Just because we love Disney doesn't mean we need to perpetuate myths about Universal.

I don't have a problem with people discussing what they prefer about Universal or WDW, what they think the other park does better, how they like the various resorts, etc, etc as long as they've given both places a fair shake. It's the people the hear from a neighbor, who heard from a co-worker, who heard from a friend, that Universal is not clean, nothing for young children, etc, etc. If they've been to either and don't want to return, that's fine, but give it a chance. What one person doesn't like might be your thing.

I love them both and in the next year will be returning more to WDW since I have a preschooler and we just bought WDW APs (our whole family has had Universal APs, but won't be renewing since they've changed their renewal policy).

I'm guessing that you probably know this, but WDW's renewal policy is exactly the same as Universal's. In fact, Disney started it.

I'm sure you've got different reasons, but I just wanted to clear that up because it almost seemed as if you were letting your Universal passes go in protest or in principle when Disney does the same thing.

Though, oddly enough, I've never been tied to the Disney annual renewal stipulations. When you buy the renewal the voucher is just a regular voucher. The day we present them is the day the new passes have been activated (then again, that's how it's been the last few years -- not sure if it will be that way when they are up again come August).

What is Universal's new renewal policy?

If you want to renew your preferred annual pass (the one that's costs $169), it costs $99.95 to renew but the renewal date pf the new pass is the expiry date of the old pass. Before, the renewal date was when you activated it.

To get the lower renewal rate the passes will expire one year from the previous expiration -- regardless of when they are processed.

Until just a few months ago at Universal -- and a few years ago at Disney -- you had to renew your pass within a 30 days of expiration but they would not be active until the next time you used them at a park. So if you had passes that expired in May 2003 and you didn't go back until August of 2003, your new pass would expire in August 2004. Now it would be May 2004 regardless.

Obviously this is a way for the parks to make more money by annuitizing the pass renewals but now that many of the Disney discounts (like MKC - Disney Club) are gone, I'm not sure if renewals are worth it unless you're there every week.

Ahh ok... so the renewal process is the same at both parks. I still renew my AP with Disney because I'm usually down in Orlando 3 or 4 times a year and after you walk through the gate 8 days the AP has already paid for itself, rather then buying a series of hoppers every time we go.

I love Universal:Pinkbounc Now I'm going to that Disney Thread and tell them how much I love them.:teeth:

Seriously though - - I'm glad, as everyone should be, that these two great themepark families are so different. What would be the point if they were alike? Love both of them!

Yeah...guess I can't saying anything about it then!! ;) :) In fact, our APs just expired on.......March 9. Gotta renew this Monday!!!!! $99 Preferred AP renewal isn't bad at all though. You figure the 1-day/2-park is around $70 or so....

Disney renewals probably aren't since they are quite high. Universal passes are very reasonable even without renewal.

What cracks me up is how hypocritical some people are. They get bent out of shape when Disney people bash Universal, so what do they do? Start posting on the same topic in "defense" and then give themselves self-congratulatory hi-fives and say "we showed those Disney people!" [/B][/QUOTE]

Sorry you find us to be so hypocritical around here. Most of us have posted that we love both parks, but do not believe the need for others to bash Universal, and some post that they do not like Disney, but did not bash Disney. Sorry if we are too repetitive for you and not to your standards. In the meantime, I love both places.

I disagree, if you are going to be visiting the parks for more then 8 days in a one year time frame then the AP is the best value.

Yup, you are right. I would imagine that a lot of people buy a Disney annual pass especially because of the hotel discounts. That is a great perk at Universal as well.

Reading over my words, I confused myself. I didn't mean in terms of value. Sure, if you will be spending 7-8 days at Disney's parks, get the AP. If you will be spending more than 4-5 days at Universal get the AP.

By "every week" I meant the renewal itself. It doesn't make sense if your pass comes up in June -- and you won't be back to the park until December to renew it now. Just get a new annual pass in December. Disney renewals are, what, a 10-15% discount on new? Multiply .1 or .15 by a year and it means that if there is a gap bigger than two months between your pass expiration and your next visit your best financial move is to NOT renew but go NEW the next time you're at the park.

That's what I meant. You certainly don't need to go every week for an AP itself to pay off (just the renewal). I have APs to Universal and Disney and I'm not a local. We own a townhouse by Animal Kingdom -- so we're up every other month or so -- but we live three hours away.

There are A LOT of folks down here in Miami who keep annual passes. That's the group that no longer benefits from renewing -- that's for the folks who wind up eating at EPCOT every weekend or watching certain stage shows whenever they can.

Sorry to have derailed this thread. Just wanted to clear that up.
