But I thought you couldn't activate the AP until you go through the turnstiles at the park? If that's the case how then do you purchase the regular ticket at the discounted rate? We would only be able to use the AP for one time use since we don't live near the parks and only take a trip down once a year.

You activate it and then come out and buy the tickets. Remember that the discount is off of gate price, not online price...so add $20 onto the online price and then take off the discount. Generally, not the best deal out there. You have to activate the AP to use it for anything other than the hotels.

Yeah, I guess we would go with a discount company like Under Cover Tourist to buy the other ticket.

Just a note that the AP can be a money saver even if traveling once yearly. Bought ours April of last year, got great AP hotel rate and are using the same passes with another hotel discount this April, just one week earlier.
