We're planning on having my sister sing at our wedding. The plan is to have her sing while we light the unity candle. Does anyone have suggestion for songs?

Thanks!

We are debating on a whole new world or a classical song! a whole new world is nice because the unity candle rpresents 2 families coming together to start a new life together...thats if you want a disney song imho!

2 of my bridesmaid's sang at our wedding. They sang "The Prayer" - the song with Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli (Or Josh Grobin and Charlotte Church). It was so beautiful - and meaningful to have our friends sing to us.

"All I ask of You" is a popluar wedding song (it is the love song from Phantom of the Opera). It is so pretty and very romantic. The theme is "love me, that's all I ask of you."

I am a soloist and have a favorite for this part of the ceremony. I had it sung at my wedding. here are the words...

"Two Candles"

Two candles shining by the alter
But tonight their flames will burn as one.
For the dark that lies ahead will be filled with light instead,
as your love just grows and grows.
Keep on burning clear and bright,
Fill our lives with Your loves light.
For it's God the Father's blest your union here tonight.
Yes, It's God the Father's blest your union here tonight.

There is a second verse, but we only had the one verse sung as we didn't want to be standing there "forever" looking at the flame.

I usually only do one verse when I sing it for weddings. The melody is quite beautiful as well. Sorry can't do that in a post..LOL!

Hope your wedding is filled with MAGIC and blessed by Him!

Blessings,
Winnie

I have sang at many weddings. As well, as my own, and doing the Unity Candle at my own wedding as well. From those experiences, I can tell you that I would recommend that it be a rather short song.

It onlt takes a few seconds to light the candle. And by the way, to ensure there is no trouble lighting the wick, I also recommend you pre-light the candle. That way, it catches quickly.

It seems like an eternity just standing there during the song, so it can be uncomfortable to some bride & grooms. DH and I agreed to look, at the flame during the song of our unity candle lighting. That is why we cut our song, "Two Candles" down to only 1 verse. In all I think it took about 1 and a half minutes. I know it's not alot of time, but trust me it seems like it when your standing there looking at a flittering flame or making goo goo eyes at each other...LOL! Which isn't so bad. I rather enjoyed it!!

Blessings,
Winnie

We used the song "Wedding Prayer" I think it's called. Honestly I had never heard it and I'm still not too familiar with it, but it was very appropriate. Supposedly #1 most popular song for right there. The pianist and my aunt (she sang then) both knew it well and they're both regular performers at weddings...It was originally on recommendation of the wedding planner, who is also a pianist/organist and has played it at many weddings.
