United - price drop policy?

If you buy tickets on United, and the price later drops, do they give you any kind of credit? Do they charge a fee to do it?

(I learned on this board that if the price of JetBlue tickets drops, you can call and get a JetBlue credit. A friend of mine is flying United, and I wondered if they have a similar policy.)

None of the legacy carriers offer a credit and very few other airlines do. The two most commonly talked about are Southwest and JetBlue. Both have different policies as well, so it's not even the same across carriers that offer this.

For the record, you can get the credit on JetBlue's website as well, you just go in and change your flight (assuming there are enough seats available at the rate you want).

United does not have that any more.
But you can do an ordinary change, paying the usual change fee, if the price drop is greater than the change fee, receiving a voucher (not cash) for the difference.

Moral of the story (generalization): Wait for a fare sale instead of buy at their everyday low price.

And since the change fee is $150 per ticket it takes quite a price drop for it to be worthwhile.

Not sure if/when United stopped but two years ago I got a check in the mail for the drop in price. Maybe because it was group travel instead of regular travel. We just called and spoke with the refunds department and they issued a check no problem.
