United First Question on Seats...

Hi.
I am able to fly to MCO from EWR on United First in August.
It will just be my mother and I flying, since the guys will be meeting us a few days letter.

One flight has the flat beds. The other has First Class Seats.
Same price.
Which is better and why?

For such a short flight, it doesn't really matter if you have lie flat seats or not. It's not likely you will be using this feature.

I am a little confused by your question. Any seat in first class is a first class seat, whether it is a regular seat or a lie flat seat. I guess if I had a choice, I'd chose the flight with the lie flat seats, just because it is likely a newer plane or has been upgraded more recently. I hope this is an upgrade, because paying first class for a short domestic flight is not worth the money. Keep in mind that UA sometimes swaps out planes, so you may book a flight with the newer seats and end up on a flight with the older seats.

Thank you. Yes, any seat in first class is a first class seat but I meant one has the "normal" first class seats you always see and one has the flat beds.
Thinking of booking the flat beds, even if I don't use since never have tried those before. But, it means getting into MCO a little earlier than our original 11 pm flight. We were originally going to stay at the airport the night before just because we never have and take the ME to BWVs the next day but if we get in about 9 pm, I may book the BWVs for another night since I see they are still available....hhnmmmmmm....Thanks.

United will more than likely change the plane. EWR is a major hub for them now that they have merged with Continental so if a longer route needs the "flat bed" seats they WILL change equipment. You're talking just over 2 hours (I know the schdule says 2½ hours) in the air.

The seats really won't make much of a difference.

Yes, two weeks ago I was in business class on UA on a flight from LHR-IAD. It was a 777 with lie flat business seats, but at the last minute, was swapped with an old configuration 777 with regular business seats. UA did credit my FF account with 15,000 miles because of the swap.

I flew business class IAD-FRA 3 years ago on a United 767. The seats were flat beds, had a big monitor, plenty of room. Was really awesome. Now I also had first class PIT-IAD, smaller plane, no flat bed, maybe a little more room but nothing special.

I'm surprised they would fly a flat bed EWR-MCO, I thought they were only international or cross country.

Continental was known to send International jets connecting through EWR to MCO, it's was just part of the overall route path they followed with the particular jet configuration. Although now part of United, probably similar routing.

Pretty much everyone who I've heard describe it says flat bed seats will be nicer than the regular seats. It is true that they may change the equipment on you so I would follow the previous advice since it's not a long flight and choose the most convenient time unless the time doesn't matter to you.

This is a no brainer. The flats seats are vastly superior. The flat seats will be more spacious and still have the ability to sit upright like the regular first class seats. The difference is you can recline to a fully flat position. The flat seats will have leg rests and MUCH MORE legroom while the regular seats will not. I'm not sure which aircraft this would be on, but assuming the timing of both flights works for your schedule I would definitely pick the flat seats without hesitation!!
