OK so i have rented cars before and always turned down the insurance. However in April Dollar at MCO said i had no choice which i didnt understand but accepted stupidly.

Now i am nervous about my December Trip because i have a great deal from Dollar at TPA for 9 days and i also have a United Explorer Credit Card from Chase. I read my benefits package and it said as long i as put the rental on this card that i have the insurance so what do i do if they force the inurance on me? just accept it and call the cc company after the charge is applied?

Any experiences with this would greatly be appreciated.

TIA

Except for a few rental companies that in their printed rules reserve the right to not rent to you for one or more reasons regarding their own collision coverage, the rental company advertising that coverages are optional must rent to you without requiring such coverages.

You just need to stand your ground about saying "no" to coverages you don't want and not signing any papers that include charges for such coverages. If the rental agent won't give you a car then use the pay phone at the back of the office waiting area (or your cell phone) to call the company headquarters.

If the rental car is part of a resort package (I don't think Disney offers any of these with rental car) or a travel package, you must charge the entire package to that credit card for that credit card's rental coverage benefit to take effect.

Now, be careful. Be sure that the credit card or insurance on your own car back at home covers you before you decline the coverage(s) offered by the rental company.

Example of comment that agent might make: "Florida law requires that cars have insurance." Truth: The renter is not required to pay extra for that.

The United card should have all the additional insurance you need on top of what your regular car insurance offers.

But don't ever let them pressure you into taking the insurance. As the PP said either call their corporate office or immediately ask for a manager. Make sure that when you sign anything that you are declining the insurance. Check the spots where they ask you to initial as well. I've never been pressured into the insurance in Orlando by Dollar.

Better yet, look into signing up for Dollar Express: http://www.dollar.com/Express/LearnMore.aspx
