MIL is concerned about carry on bags for United. She came up on JetBlue with a carry on suitcase (fits in the overhead),a shoulder bag tote that fits under the seat and her purse on her shoulder. She is going home on United and is insisting that she can not take the same combo of bags/purse. Soooooo....I'm thinking she could take her suitcase and a largish shopping bag/purse that fits under the seat. That would get her down to two.
Anyone have experience with carry ons on United?
Thanks:thumbsup2

Can she fit her purse in the bag that's going under the seat? That will get her down to 2 bags.

Well, that's the problem...she's not sure, so I suggested she borrow a slightly larger bag from us, she doesn't want to do that, yada, yada, yada....I think I've convinced her that she won't have a problem taking the bag she brought up and packing the empty purse in the suitcase.:thumbsup2

Yes, I mainly fly UA. One bag and one personal item are allowed. As mentioned, she'll have to put her purse inside one of the bags. This is the same allowance as most airlines, including JetBlue. She's lucky they didn't stop her on her flight out.

She took more than JB allows:

Each customer may bring one bag that fits in the overhead bin plus one personal item (purse, briefcase, laptop, etc.) that fits under the seat in front of you.

I don't know if this link will work, but it's the "carry on baggage requirements" link I found when I did a search on their site for "carry on".

Just put the purse in the tote and she's golden. United's carry on info is the exact same as JB. She was *lucky* on JB.

Oh, and I do that all the time...bag in bag in bag, even! You just need to follow the rules while getting on board, that's all.

Jet Blue let her get away with the extra bag THIS TIME! That does not mean they will again or that United will. It's two bags. She needs to consolidate or risk being told "No" at the gate.

Sorry!

She is overlimit, carryon for every domestic airline that I know of is one carry-on and one personal item, per person that must fit under the seat in front of you.

She should consolidate, regardless of the airline she is flying.
