Hi,

I have just noticed that we can now reserve our economy seats with United Airlines on our inward flight to LHR on 1 August, however there's only 1 seat available for selection in economy and as far as can tell on the UA website, we haven't had any seats allocated to us yet.

There any plenty of seats available in PE, however I'd rather not spend $500+ on an upgrade when there are better thing to spend it on in Disney.

I'm never too bothered where I sit when travelling on business, however with 2 kids, aged 7 & 8 and one with Autism I think 2 pairs of seats is a minimum.

Should I be checking every day to see if any seats become available or would you advise another strategy?

All help welcome...

We booked our flights with United in December and were forced to choose our seats before I paid. Even now I keep changing them but we don't fly until October. I'm sure if you give them a call they can sort something out and give you peace of mind.

Thanks for the advice.

I'm away at the moment making it difficult to ring but I'll give them a ring at the end of the week when I return.

As you are away try emailing them. Hopefully they will respond by the time you get home. Worth a try.

I would phone them and explain that you have 2 young children and one with special needs, explain your concerns about sitting together. Airlines don't usually seat kids away from parents anyway, but for peace of mind I would call.

When I checked my reservation the other day I found that we had 3 seats allocated on each leg of our journey but our youngest DS (5) didn't have a seat at all.
I called UA and the lady I spoke to was really helpful. She explained we did have 4 seats, had been allocated to be seated together, albeit on a couple of the legs a seat apart due to the configuration, and then e-mailed a copy of our seat numbers across.

Just come off the phone United Airlines customer service rather frustrated.

I explained the situation however she couldn't really help as all it seems all the seats in economy are already reserved.

The only suggestions she had was to get to the airport early and hope that we could be seated together or alternatively pay for an upgrade. :worried:

There seems to plenty of space in premium economy. I would say it's only quarter full.

Perhaps they will bump some frequent flyers at the airport so there will be seats in economy for you :)

Have you booked your flights directly with United? When we booked ours we were made to choose our seats before we completed the booking? I'm confused at why you haven't had to do that too?

United is on a very slippery downslope (and has been sliding down for a long time now)

A few days ago they forgot to stock up on toilet paper on a SFO-LHR flight ... 10 hours with only napkins to wipe you with ... nice ...

United was also voted worst airline on the ACSI (American Consumer Satisfation Index) for the second year in a row.

I booked the flights through a 3rd party agent, so I guess that explains it.
