So for the last few years we have done secret santa in my family. We write down 3 ideas on a piece of paper with our name, toss into a hat and pull a name.

This year, due to our family growing, all the "grandchildren" and their significant others will bring a $25 gift and we will just do a White Elephant.

HELP! The gift needs to be unisex...

A unisex, white elephant gift....but no age group or gender?
If they would say guy bring a guy gift, girl bring a girl gift, then that would be easier..

Oh, I know.....MR. POTATO HEAD!! The box says from 1-100 yrs old, and it's actually gender nuetral...plus, they won't know if you had it laying around or not.

Honestly, that's all I have....good luck!

Ive been suggesting Movie Passes to everyone.

$25 movie g/c should get 2 people in, and perhaps a popcorn. If the person chooses to go alone, they could get popcorn, soda and some candy. :)

This is a great idea!!

What's a White Elephant? Is it supposed to be a gag gift :confused3

No, we all bring a gift and place it in the center of the room. Everyone picks a number and starting with #1 you pick a gift. #2 goes and can either pick a gift or steal someone elses gift. We do 2 rounds. That's why its important to pick a fun gift!

Thanks for the ideas!

I love getting gumball machines for that random gift. I would find them at Bed Bath and Beyond for $20.

Good luck finding something!

I got the card game Apples to Apples in this type of exchange last year. That is the most fun card game I've ever played. It's right around the $20-$25 mark I think and I saw it on sale for as low as $11.99 recently, but I cannot remember where.

Thanks ~ We do that too, I just didn't know it had a name.

Get a cutesy picture that most people wouldn't want.....slip a $25 gift card inside the frame. That way, whoever's stuck with it at the end gets the surprise :thumbsup2 (I stole this idea from someone on some message board somewhere...maybe here)

Ohhh I like that!

How 'bout a nice throw blanket? Fleece, or even down-filled. My sister bought a wrap-around one (I think it snaps up the front) and it was a big hit for a gift exchange she went to at work.

I really like the website www.uncommongoods.com for fun, off-the-wall gifts. For example, a desktop dodgeball game for $20!

Thats a good one too!

How about a digital keychain? Walgreens has them for $20 :thumbsup2

Around here we call it a Yankee Swap.

Last year and this year I got a nice throw on sale in a neutral color, and threw in a nice container of hot chocolate. That went over pretty well.
Also, DH put in a tavern puzzle last year. While everyone made fun of it at first, everyone ended up playing with it by the end of the night!

Lots of people do something small like a bottle of wine or candy and scratch tickets.

Good luck. It can be fun.

I misunderstood....I thought White Elephant was when you brought something from home that you didn't want/use and give as a gift. hhhmm...sorry, my bad!

I also thought that the pick and swap thing was Dirty Santa....???

I confuse easily.

It's called by a lot of different names. Chinese Christmas for instance. Why it's called that, I have no clue.

We have played this on my husband's side of the family for the last six years now. It is lots of fun and so much less expensive than buying gifts for everyone. Ours is a $20 gift. I send my kids to the store and tell them to pick something out.

Last year the gifts that were hot were dip bowls and an Elvis lamp. Go figure! Plus a Target gift card but gift cards don't count because they are always hot and no thought goes into the purchase.

I'm crocheting an afghan for this year's exchange and we're taking a chocolate fountain. We've got two more gifts to pick up.

This year will be ruthless, there will be no freezing!!
