Actually, all California-Site Cast Members at the
Disneyland Resort, including all Disney Internships and Programs Participants, are required to join the Union and pay Union Dues in roles covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Unlike Florida, the State of California does not have a "Right to Work" law, and all California-Site CBAs contain Union Security clauses. As such, failure to obtain and maintain membership in good standing with the applicable Union will result in discipline, up to and including immediate termination, as stipulated in the relavent CBA.
California-Site
Disney College Program Cast Members are classified as Casual Regular Cast Members, and have lower dues than Full Time Cast Members, ranging aproximately $5-$15 per week.
Most California-Site QSR Cast Members are represented by
Workers United Local 50, an affiliate of the Service Employees International Union. You can contact them by email or at their offices in Anaheim, Calif. to obtain details on Union dues.
A minority, comprising those working at the Hotels of the
Disneyland Resort are represented by
UNITE HERE Local 11. Local 11 is currently involved in a labour dispute with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S., Inc.; and as such, Cast Members in this Bargaining Unit are not having Union Dues automatically deducted from their paycheques.
In either case, Casting Services can also give you more information upon your arrival about Union Dues. Where applicable, they'll also provide you with the necessary forms to complete to ensure proper deductions.
