The Orlando Sentinel reports that the Service Trades Council, whose members include housekeepers, characters and ride operators rejected Disney's Contract offer. Both sides have agreed to go back to the bargining table & have left open the possiblity of calling in a federal mediator.

The latest contract offer relies heavily on yearly bonuses, rather than wage increases, a strategy that would keep wages lower. Under the proposed deal, a worker paid the maximum hourly rate would see his pay increase to $11.06 an hour, but would receive a $900 bonus this year, followed by $1,000 bonuses in each of the following two years.

“It's insulting that's what they think of us,” said Mary Eagan, a 13-year veteran and steward in the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, which represents florists and merchandise workers. “That's all we are worth to them.”

The Disney contract also calls for increases in health-care premiums and fails to meet the union's request for increased pension payments.
Talks are set to resume on June 18th.

My hat is off to Safari Steve, OWTS, and others....

I don't honestly know how they stay in such good moods and remain positive......

but I'm not involved in anything that could remotely be considered "skilled labor". I can see making a career at WDW as a stage technician, artisan, cosmetologist or costumer, chef, clerical position, everything else is just a job (and a good one if you're retired or a student who just wants to do something easy for a little pocket change. Plus, you get free admission to the best theme parks in the world!) Of course, I'm not a union person... I don't really think that a fry cook is worth six figures (no offense to any fry cooks out there).
