Unfortunate way to end our magical cruise

I'm also sorry to hear that you were stolen from while enjoying your vacation. It would really put a damper (to say the least) on your memories. It happens everywhere today. I was traveling through Newark, N.J. airport and a homeland security personal at the gate said he had to "re-screen" my carry-on and when it was returned I found out later he had taken the best camera (out of three we had). Stolen from one who was suppose to protect us. It makes you MAD!!!! Hopefully with the insurance you can hopefully put this behind you. Good Luck.:)

That's awful!

In April, TSA screeners at LAX were charged for drug trafficking. News

Luckily I had the IPad locked, so I am doubtful they could get into it. It was also in the safe for over 4 days and I am assuming it probably needed to be charged anyhow. We did try the locate your IPad feature, but I am thinking because it is locked with a security code it is not tracking it.

DH is a realist and said any smart person who stole it probably already wiped it clean and will sell it in Nassau. According to him they did not steal it for the educational kid apps, music, and my Weight Watchers app :)

The interesting thing is DH had his phone out all week and it wasn't touched once. I think our stateroom attendant was smart enough not to touch that,
as he saw DH using it throughout the cruise. I think it was just luck that he found something of value to take. Like I said, he or someone he worked with (that had access to the room) had to pull the bags out from under the bed to rifle through them. Obviously he hit the jackpot with my carry on. We went to dinner every night at 5:45 and usually returned about 7PM to change and go out to enjoy more activities. The last evening DH and my little one were in the room at 7PM and never left all night. So we were creatures of habit and we saw our stateroom attendant every evening as we left for dinner - always wished us a nice dinner....so he knew our schedule and obviously waited until the last evening to se what he could "find".

Theft of personal belongings (up to $1000) is part of our travel insurance policy.
We need to provide our original receipt from the IPad, claim forms, detailed description of the theft, proof of travel on the ship, and a copy that we filed a claim with DCL. We have everything together already, except of course the DCL claim....kind of disheartened that they have not responded to my voice messages. Will give them until Monday...then I will just flood their voice message box with messages!

Sad that someone would need to steal to make ends meet. Obviously my family has never been in this type of situation, for which I am thankful. it turned into a teachable moment for my kids as well. And as disappointed as I am I think I am more upset that our belongings were rifled through.

Will keep you all updated -

Sorry to hear this happened to you. My daughter had her brand new iPod touch stolen from our hotel room this past May while we were in London. Your husband is correct, while we had it locked and the tracking feature on it, the "pros" know how to wipe it clean and start from scratch. I worked with the manager of the hotel and although he knew who and when people came and went to our room, it couldn't be proved who took it, so we were out luck. It is unfortunate that our children have to learn this lesson in life!

I called out inkedupmomma for the mean nature of the post. My post got deleted. Guess DIS boards approves of this behavior. Hum????

Sorry for the misfortune. Not that this would have helped you, but I do always lock our luggage before putting them outside our cabin for pickup. Never liked having my luggage sit around an unsecured area.

NO - she was commenting on someone else's post, then following up with how to locate an ** iPhone on Facebook. Reread post #14.

That is awful. It seems that the morals of people are becoming worse and worse. I have read that crew members have stolen iPhones. It makes me nervous to bring anything of value on the cruise. I hope it all works out with your insurance covering your loss. Incidents like this are going to give DCL a bad name.

So tacky. Please keep us posted on what you find out.

We've left a lap top sitting out on the coffee table on two 15-day cruises on the Wonder without any problem. I assume Ipads are easier to hide and more valuable to sell.

Now that we've switched to an Ipad we'll keep a closer eye on it.

That's terrible!!
Sorry that happened to you and thank you for posting this so others can be more cautious.

Jeesh! What the heck did I do?? I wasn't being mean or snarky at all! Just felt that op totally prefaced how bad she already felt, and the one persons comment was uncalled for. Why post an I told you so? It adds no value. Especially when the person was already kicking themselves! Any who, sorry to have ruffled any feathers, lets get over it.

It wasn't you that caused the problem.

Your post got deleted because you called someone a name plain and simple. The DIS does not approve of any rude posts. If you have a problem with a moderator action please contact the admins. Inkeupmomma's post was not rude at all.

Anything that is of value to you should always be either locked in a in room safe or with you at all times when traveling

Which many times does not help since most safes have a default code ( I beleive that it all zeros ) that allows someone to access the safe. Those with ill intent generally find a way.

It's irritating to me that when paying customers have been truly been violated IN THEIR OWN ROOM that it's suggested that they haven't been diligent enough.

I am so sorry that someone stole from you/your family. The thought of someone rifling through my bags gives me the creeps! I would still let Apple know it was stolen, on the off chance someone takes it into a store for repair etc.

Is that you Beth? I am so sad this happened on your vacation. I have been thinking about you all week hoping the cruise was awesome. (especially since i raved so much about ours). Hope to catch up soon and disney responds. :(

Yes, there's a way to get around the "safe" also. Where there's a will, there's a way.
When we sailed from NYC in July, our safe somehow was left open by the previous guest but in the locked position. So we couldn't use it at all until it was reset. I called maintenance and they said they'd get there when they can. You can imagine my stress with only a 2 nt cruise to try to squeeze so much in that who feels like waiting a long time in the room just to put my stuff away (passport, cell phones, & HP tablets for the train ride) So I found our stateroom host and asked if he could let maintenance in our room to reset the safe so I don't have to sit in there to wait for him. (We'd keep our valueable in ds's back pack until it was fixed.)
Our stateroom host tracked down a maintenance employee, borrowed the special key they use to reset/unlock a safe, and got an explanation on how to use it. He was back before ds even finished going to the bathroom.

At the time I was so grateful he got our safe working but just goes to show how easy it is for crew to get into a 'safe'. Now that I think about, it's kind of creepy.

It's sad how protective one must be of belongings, like you can't turn your back for a minute.
