I've known shipping on DisneyShopping.com was really high for Canadians, which is why I've only bought one thing in the past, and had it shipped to relatives who lives in the U.S. Today I received an email about their Presidents Day sale, which had a link to some pins... I found a pin I want and added it to my cart, for fun, just to see what the shipping cost would be:

Purchase Subtotal: $8.99
Purchase Discounts: $0.00
Total Shipping & Handling: $39.95
Shipping Discounts: $0.00
Sales Tax (estimated): $0.00

$39.95 shipping for a tiny pin?!!?? It does NOT cost $39.95 to ship a pin to Canada(or anywhere in the world), when its only $5 to the states. Its really unfair that Disney is gouging so much on shipping. This makes me SO angry! Perhaps if Disney lowered their "international" shipping charges, more people outside the U.S. would buy from their site. I would like the pin, but I'm not spending $50 on it!

I agree, the shipping is unbelievable. I've tried finding other websites selling reputable Disney stuff but so far havent found any. E bay is the only other option, and Im not 100% comfortable with Ebay

Because it goes by parcel post which is insurable. The alternative for little things like that is letter post which is not insurable.

In addition, UPS and other private services have been reported to be more expensive because of added customs handling. I see time after time eBay buyers in Canada asking international sellers to use "mail"
as opposed to Fedex or UPS or whatever.

I'm sure you can insure a package and send it by parcel post for much less than $40! Since it is not a letter, I wouldn't expect it to be sent by letter post. I can buy from other websites (Amazon, etc) and shipping is very reasonable.

seashoreCM, thank you for responding, but I was not really looking for an answer as to why shipping to Canada was expensive... I was just stating that it was unfair to overcharge us like that.

How quickly is it going to get here? Unless they are sending it next day priority, they are totally ripping you off.

A quick look at the UPS site, shows that the only shipping method (I randomly did Orlando to Toronto) that is $50 is if I get UPS to come to me tonight to pick up the package (i.e. I don't go drop it off and I have no daily pick up already arranged) AND I need it to be in Toronto by Friday (tomorrow). If they can have it in Toronto by Wednesday, it is just over $12.

Well I say THANK HEAVENS for the huge shipping charges! ::yes:: If they weren't as high as they are, I might.....er....probably......er......definitely would be spending hundreds of dollars at a time at disneyshopping.com So, now I get to save that money! :thumbsup2 Thanks disneyshopping!

I had selected "International"... that is the only option for Canadians. It doesn't say if its priority or not, but I expect it isn't. Don't worry, they're not ripping me off..'cause I'm NOT buying anything from them! They lose.

Yes, it is typically the duty and brokerage fees that completely up the price that is tacked on.

One thing you can do (won't work for Disney) is to use borderfree of a like site that shows you the duty/brokerage up front and then at least you know ahead of time. Definitely choose USPS/Canada Post and NOT UPS or another courier - they charge an arm and a leg for duty/broker.

Don't even get me started on the unfairness. I find that a lot of the companies that have U.S./Canadian stores don't cater whatsoever to us. I've been searching for some items for my son for our upcoming trip and am aggravated that I cannot go to the Old Navy website or the Children's Place webiste and actually see the Canadian costs of ANYTHING on their site. Could they not show a Canadian price like other websites do? They want us to buy from them but they won't let us order online, won't tell us the costs upfront of even the ITEM let alone the extra charges. Makes me mad!

So...like the previous poster, I just don't buy from them. Their loss!

DisneyShopping ships USP Express to Canada. Thus the reason you are seeing the inflated prices...

While annyoing, the parcel arrives the morning after it ships - and customs are normally minimal since with UPS Express all you pay are the actual taxes and duty if applicable (no service or brokerage charge - that is included in the shipping rate).

DisneyShopping could ship USPS Priority to Canada, as it's a (sorta) trackable service. However, it too is not terribly affordable - and I think UPS offers better customer service to the shipper in terms of real time tracking and MUCH faster claims service should your box go amiss.

As everyone else said... don't like it, take your business elsewhere!

I have written Disney about it and just get an automated answer, true, it is totally a joke! You can send something around the world and back for that price!

Isn't it funny that I ordered tickets for LaNouba from the Disney site and for the UPS shipping to Canada it was $4.00. Hmmmm????:confused3 To boot, I ordered them at 10:00 Sunday night and had them on Tuesday at 11:00 am.:confused3

This is so frustrating. I've ordered things from other US retailers and the shipping wasn't anything near $40. I don't understand why disneyshopping doesn't create a Canadian shipping warehouse. They have Disney stores here anyways. I'm sure they must have a warehouse somewhere on Canadian soil that they could piggyback that service through (like other US companies often do). Mind you Canada Post's rates aren't that great either!

I know it is ridiculous! I have ordered 3 different times when I can justify the s&h by quantity of items purchased at hugley discounted rates! I have never recieved them the following day.....maybe 1 - 2 weeks later :confused3 doesnt sound express to me.

I agree with the unfair shipping costs. My solution was to place an order and have it shipped to our resort every year for our WDW trip, and I've been lucky enough to catch the $5 shipping sales each time. It's very simple, and then I don't have to pay duty for the things I order. Have ordered from many other American websites as well, and had stuff there to meet us at our resort.:thumbsup2

The only time that I will buy from them now is when I can have things directly shipped to a Disney resort. I can't justify buying $5 t-shirts and paying that price for them to be delivered!

I totally agree! I attempted to order a $20 sweater a couple months ago and it was "free" shipping time in the US....unfortunately with shipping to canada that $20 sweater was going to cost $75 total...no thanks I'll just go buy one here lol....

I'm a little hard to buy clothes for (I'm a Medium Tall) and there isn't a lot of availability in that size in Canada . Mark's Work Wearhouse has started making some of their basic T-shirts available in that size, but not a lot of other items. We've starting buying online from L.L.Bean. Their shipping costs are very reasonable (they use Canada Post) and as they clear all their shipments through a private customs broker they add in all the applicable duties and taxes at the time you place the order. No extra charges on delivery. And if you have to return an item (as we did with something my DW ordered back in the fall) all Canadian returns go to an address in Etobicoke, not Maine.

I only wonder why other companies (Disney included) can't or won't do the same. Obviously Bean has a large enough Canadian clientele to make it worthwhile for them.

Not sure where you live? Do you cross the Border into Buffalo?
If so, I know of a freight company that allows Canadian's to have pkgs shipped there for pick up. More Canadian vehicles in the parking lot than any other!!!;) They charge $5 per pkg.
