Unexpected Surgery Before my Trip

I may need to have surgery to remove a cyst. It has blood supply and I was told it may rupture so there is a big chance they are going to remove it (I hope, I don't want Indy or Space to make it rupture!) But I was wondering if anyone has had this happen and how this may effect my trip. I'm thinking it will be an out patient surgery and hopefully will be tomorrow or the next day so I have enough time to heal. This will be my first surgery (other than wisdom teeth) so I am really not knowing what to expect. I just REALLY don't want it to effect my trip in 10 days! Thanks in advance for any advice! :thumbsup2

it depends where the cyst is? i have had a surgery recently and if you wnt to pm me i can tell you about it and how i overcame what the doctor said and rode the rollar coastes anyway..

I PM'd Funball, but the cyst is in my abdomen, should have said that! :rolleyes1

I'm nervous, specially since I have found no useful info on trusty old Google! :confused3

I was in the same situation twice. Cysts with blood supply, in abdomen (one time 4 and one time 3) - one surgery 4 and one 5 days before my trip. Both surgeries also done as an outpatient.

When the cysts were discovered I was worried sick about the trip too. I'm coming in from overseas, so I also had the long flights to consider.

I told the doctor and he assured me there was nothing to worry about as long as I "was listening to my body and not overdoing it."

The seatbelt on t he way in was a little uncomfortable, but that may have been my imagination. Plus I am Pooh sized, soo.... ;)
Rode everything I usually ride (even Screaming once on the first trip). No problems there, at least none related to the surgery.

With 10 days to spare you should be fine.

Yikes, rides like Screamin' and Indy are usually the ONLY rides I ride! Hopefully this won't effect me. Did they put you to sleep? Give you meds after? I'm nervous because I don't have a clue about what they are going to do. :confused3 But you're right, 9 days to relax is a pretty good amount of time. I SHOULD be getting in tonight because my ER discharge papers said I need to be seen within 2-3 days and this was on Saturday. I just realized I won't be at DL at all on Wednesday, that's just when we're leaving. So I really have 10 days before I will be on any rides. Did you have any trouble walking or anything like that?

I've had the same experience with cysts in my reproductive orgrans. It kind of depends whether they are doing the surgery laproscopic or cutting you opwn. Most rides have warnings about people riding who have had recent surgery. Some of the rides can be jerky like Matterhorn and Thunder Mountain, I hurt after those rides depsite my surgery being 8 months ago. Just be aware of your body and be aware that rides will appear jerkier and hurt more than normal.

I DID BTM after my surgery like literally 4 days after.. and i ws fine. i just had to make sure my stitches were not ripped or open! but i did not have a cyst taken out...

Yes, I was put to sleep. Full sedation.

They didn't cut though. I am so sorry, I was told laproscopic is the standard method for abdomninal cysts/cysts in reproductive organs, so I didn't make a difference there. I'm in Germany though, and sometimes our doctors seem to have rules od their own.

They gave me some painkillers and warned me to watch for bleeding. Never needed the painkillers and no bleeding. Had no trouble walking either. I remember a little sting two or three times, but it was really nothing major at all.

They were kind enough to give me a short English note, let me see if I find it.

I am not sure what kind of surgery it will be, but I am thinking it may be laproscopic. Yeah I will definitely have to be ready for this! But I think I've read more about it now to where I am not as nervous as I was before. I just got scared because the lady said she was trying to scare me into seeing someone as soon as possible, like I wasn't scared enough already haha.

I guess it really depends on your body. Hopefully that will be my case too!

Hopefully it's laproscopic. I think it might be! That will mean I won't have to worry about stitches ripping open. I was SO excited for this trip 3 days ago, and now I am a little worried about it. Tomorrow I go in for another exam and they will tell me for sure when and if I need surgery. I want it sooner than later so I won't have to worry about it rupturing! Ugh. Hopefully this works out.

OK, just got back from the doc. She did an exam and everything and said she just wants to monitor it and keep having me back for checkups. It is still small so she doesn't want to do surgery yet. I asked her if I have to be careful or anything and she said "Nope! Enjoy your trip!" so for now it's going to be fine. Fewww! :)

That's great news indeed.

Yeah, if cysts are really small they'll normally monitor them for at least a couple of months.
