We have eaten at Rainforest Cafe sporadically throughout the years. The food has always been just OK but our kids LOVED the jungle creatures. That being said....we were in for a HUGE surprise this year!
We arrived at the AK RFC at about 11:30 on Tuesday afternoon. We were immediately seated next to the zebra in the gorilla room. We perused the menus and found there were some new items. For an appetizer we ordered the pita quesidillas and the crab dip. When they came out they were HUGE! The crab dip was hot and bubbly and crunchy on the edges, paired with the hot, crisp tortilla chips - it was bliss. The pitas were overflowing with cheese, onions, peppers and chicken. There was sour cream and pico de gallo to garnish them with.....yummmm, both appetizers were so good! Now for lunch!
My hubby opted for the new shrimp platter and I had the Mogambo shrimp (as usual), and my 3 year old had the macaroni and cheese with buttered corn.
My hubby's dish was just incredible! I can't say enough about it! There were 6 ENORMOUS coconut shrimp on skewers, 5 crab stuffed, bacon wrapped shrimp, and a huge bowl of shrimp scampi! There were sides of fresh veggies and black beans and rice. The dipping sauces were lemon based and coconut/bbq based. The flavors blended so well and the platter was just HUGE!
My Magambo shrimp came out and it was also very large. There is usually about 8 - 10 shrimp in the dish tops. Well, I counted *18* shrimp this time! It was wonderfully flavorful with JUST enough sauce to make it perfect. It also came with 2 large slices of italian spiced bread (I am sure it is called fescata, or something but I am too lazy to look it up.
) It was so very good.
My son has the standard Macaroni and cheese and corn. Nothing special but it was a King's feast to a 3 year old.
I have to give this restaurant 5 out of 5 stars on this trip. If you haven't tried RFC in awhile, give it a shot and get that INCREDIBLE shrimp dish...you won't be sorry!!!
