"Unexpected" Cleaning @ Pop pools

I live in a community that has our own pool. I have never seen an accident, but one day the pool was closed down due to a parent cleaning out her kids underwear in the pool. :confused3 :confused3

I don't know the cirumstances since I wasn't there but is sure was the talk of the pool and the family got their pool pass taken away from them for the rest of the year.

wow. i did not hear about this at all. which isnt really a surprise because i work inside, not outside. but yea, totally agree. i mean, we even sell the swim diapers in everything pop shopping and dining. they might be more than walmart, but hey, they should have come prepared.

My DH is GM at a country club and we were having issues with this one summer. I can remember 3 Sundays when the pool got closed in the middle of the afternoon. Not only is it a pain in the neck, we also lose a ton of revenue when everyone packs up and goes home.

The Board of Directors instituted a $250.00 cleaning fee for these occurences and it hasn't happened since. I guess just he threat of a $250.00 "fine" is enough to make people take their kids into the bathroom and check those swim pants more often.

We also insist on swim diapers. It if happens too much this year, we may ban all children under 3 (and over 3 if still in diapers) from the big pool.

Considering many can't read the pool signs that say This Pool is for Registered Guests only and that the pool closes at Midnight, why does it surprise anyone, that they over look the Swim diaper section too.

Cleaning up an accident such as this can depend greatly on how long before it was 'caught'.

If the mess gets into the filter and filtration equipment directly - two days doesn't surprise me at ALL.

If its caught quickly and quickly 'localized' (if possible) and all visible signs are removed promptly AND the pool is without guests with 'rapid circulation/filtration' on the water for a few hours with extra clorination and chemicals added, that should take care of it.

Accidents DO happen - even WITH swim diapers. I'm sure this wasn't the first time and it sure won't be the last. :)

Well, I'm a lifeguard/swim instructor and I can tell you these things certainly do happen, from infants on up to older children...I'm surprised the pools only closed for 1/2 a day, when we have accidents they must be shut down for 24 hours. So just be grateful Disney cleans things up quick, and regardless of parental supervision these things do happen from time to time...

and regarding the housekeeper who was trying to sanitize the room - yes, we have to make sure we follow all of the precautions at my pool. One time I had toddler pee on the floor and her mother told me to "just rinse it off" but we had to get someone to disinfect it. My boss came with a handy spray and then we were all set...no biggie. :)

This has happend to me 2x during the same trip to AKL. Each time the child was not in swim pants. The pool was closed and the life guards were handing out swim pants. I was shocked how many people took them because their child wasn't wearing any. It is really pretty gross.:scared1:

At any age when they are still having accidents.

i do have kids as i said my son got sick in a pool that had to be closed. my concern is the health issue that this poses, little ones are always swollowing pool water. i do realize that accidents happen just was a bit frustating that two happened on the same trip much less day within a half hour of each other.:scared:

The Pop pool was closed for unscheduled cleanings several times during my February Vacation. Accidents happen. Kids are eating junk that they don't at home, they are on different schedules than they are at home...getting up at a different time , eating at different times, going to bed at different times...and yes going to poop at different times.

My poor DS 7 gets at least one loose stool, everytime we go to WDW. (I'm sure when he's 16, he'll appriciate that I shared that with you.) It's never happened in the pool, but once he did rush out of the pool and say "Mommy, I have to go poop NOW!" He's Autistic, so I was lucky he was able to verbalize the urgency to me.

Never had it happen to us so far in 16 years, guess we've been lucky. But, I'd rather people just relaxed and let them clean up without making a huge issue of it. Can you imagine if they started fining at WDW? Then, people would simply poop & scoop. Imagine the bacteria that would stay simply because they didn't want to get fined. Please, people...tell someone what happened so they can close the pool & sanitize it!!!

We've had our daughter in the pools since she was 3 months old and she's always been in a swim diaper. However, some other cultures don't use them and wouldn't know what a swim diaper even was. One lady with a heavy accent asked me last year if they meant to make sure you had a clean diaper on the child just for swimming. We ended up giving her an extra and told her where she could get them. We saw her later and she was thrilled that we'd told her about them and had bought some to take home to show her sister.

It's not always about negligence or people not caring. Sometimes its simply that they don't know. Then again, there "are" those poop & scoopers out there... I just know it! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

A little OT but the mention of other cultures made me remember this: at SAB one year we saw a lady and her kids strip NAKED right inside the doorway to the restrooms/shower room at the pool. OMG! She obviously thought nothing of walking naked with her kids (two under 5) back to the showers, rightin plain view of everyone. Just glad they used suits in the pool!

Germ Phobias! :rotfl:

Well, when I was younger I use to live at the swimming pool in the summer and never really thought about how gross it is...nope, never thought twice, just wanted to have fun. Walked every where bare foot too.

Now that I'm older and my husband of 14 years has constantly pointed out how gross public hot tubs, hotel whirlpool baths, and swimming pools are during our married life, I now cringe just thinking about getting in them. I long ago gave up the romantic hot tub notions I had since my honeymoon! I even just read a report about hotel rooms on MSN yesterday that said you should wipe everything with lysol upon arrival and wear flip flops in the shower so you don't get athletes foot and never ever should you use the bath.

Sorta takes some of the fun out of a trip! :sad1: I'll have to get over any of these phobias before June! Hubby? Well not sure he can...but I'm going to try to ignore that. My 12 year old won't give none of it a thought, he'll just chill out, swallowing pool water and all. Although I am glad they close pools because of vomit or poop!!! You should be too. Don't be mad, be glad!

When visiting parks and living in a hotel room for a week or more you have to get over the fact that germs are everywhere. Just think, you can't even ride a ride without handling bars that have had sweaty hands on them all day, not to mention that you are using rest rooms that have been used by thousands a day. I don't think hand sanitizer has a prayer in these circumstances.

What's a person to do? As much as Disney costs, you certainly can't live in a bubble, go have fun! I'm going to!!! :teleport:

BTW - my husband still gets onto me for going around barefoot. He always wear socks. I don't think his feet have ever seen the light of day! :rotfl2:

:jumping1: 33 years old and still going strong, germs and all!!

OMG, this thread has me sick. I guess I am the mother of three living in a bubble. I am so paranoid of germs. My poor kids will not be allowed in the pool this year after reading all of these stories. I am sorry, it's gross!! I understand kids are kids, but it's just plain gross. It also drives me right out of my mind when I hear of a child that has a throw up bug or diaherea just out & about. Stay home or in your hotel & get better, and don't expose yourselves to healthy people. Sorry, I had to vent!

I hate wearing socks so right there with you WEN LOL Neighbors think I am nuts running out in snow with no socks or shoes mind you, to get the mail.

OH and I eat raw cookie dough and lick the cake batter bowls too. LOL I look at it this way...been doing it my whole life and I ain't dead yet so why stress.

Back on topic...if they have to close the pools for unexpected happenings why wouldnt they let you use another pool at another resort with some sort of temporary pool hopping pass?

I really can do no right on these boards lately.

I didn't say my son was sick. I said something about being at WDW doesn't agree with his digestive tract. One loose stool in 7 days does not mean he's sick, or has a bug. I truly try to keep his schedule as close to what it is at home, and he doesn't eat a lot of garbage when we vacation, but digestive problems are very common for Autistic kids. Since I have no way of knowing if he's gonna have it on Monday or Friday or not at all, I am not going to not let him enjoy himself because there is a chance he might possibly get a belly ache.

I also didn't say the loose stool was in the pool or in his pants, he gets to the potty on time.

Please don't assume that every time a child gets sick at DW that they have a virus or something and that the parents are being negligent. Many times kids get sick from a ride that was too intense (or just too soon after a meal or snack), or from the heat or from dehydration or just getting overly excited. Yes, some of those can be avoided, but not everyone that gets sick is out to ruin your health. Hmmm..... exposing sick people to healthy people.... maybe they are hoping to catch "health" from them. Let's just try to give people the benefit of the doubt and not assume that every other parent is a reprehensible, negligent derelict out to ruin everyone else's fun/health.

 Spread the love people

Yes yes.. Spread the love. :)

I can tell you -- as a kid who threw up at the drop of a hat -- I did NOT have to have any outward signs of illness; or for that matter an actual illness of any kind, to just up and decide that anytime was an EXCELLENT time to lose my lunch/dinner/cookies.

Generally speaking, if I'd spent too much time in the back seat of a car, if my diet changed quickly and weirdly or if I was just over-excited.. LOOKOUT!

It happens. They're kids! Sometimes I think if we could all take a cue from our children sometimes.. You'll see a kid barfing one second and then running off to play the next. Didn't phase 'em one bit.

I can't believe I just wrote this post. The DIS sure brings out some weird stories.
