Hi there, i'm looking for a nice digital underwater camera I can use in the hotel pool. I think it would be cool to get some pics underwater of the fiance and I. I have come acroos two cameras: Pentax Optio W10 6.0 megapixel Waterproof Digital Camera and the Olympus Stylus 720 SW 7.1-Megapixel Digital Camera With Shock Proof and Waterproof Design. The pentax is priced at $250 and the Olympus is priced at around $350. I only need it to go down probably 4 feet because it is going to be used in a pool. I want to know if anyone on this forum has had any experience with either of these. I just want the camera....I don't want to use disposable and I dont' want to buy a new camera and get a waterproof case. I'll spend the money but I want the digital camera/waterproof all in one package...If anyone can help that would be great...cheers

My family has gone through several versions of underwater cameras, mostly for use in pools, waterparks and snorkelling. I haven't tried the 2 you are asking about, but I thought I'd add my 2cents worth since it might be of some help.

We are currently using new a Canon Digital Elph camera with a waterproof housing. We had to upgrade since our previous version was too slow. We just returned from WDW and got great shots with it of waterslides, underwater, water play at the pools, etc.

My advice is to make sure the camera you get is fast enough (to capture whatever it is you want before it's too late -- waterslides can be hard) and to make sure it is waterproof to a depth farther than you plan to take it. Small things, like splashes, waterfalls, etc. push the water on the seams with more force than you realize -- I wouldn't recommend something that only goes down about 10 feet because it is easy to cause it to leak. (learned this from experience).

Having a waterproof camera at the pools is great -- we get our best trip photos from there! :)

I know you said you only needed it to be 4 ft. However, you might want to check out some scuba stores like Divers Direct for underwater digital cameras. You may find one cheaper, and most can be used topside. They will also be fast enough to handle underwater shots. The plus is that you can use it snorkeling, scuba diving, etc and the way its built it will handle some tougher blows (more durable).

The other option which I know you didnt want to do is to get a housing for a camera. I have a Sony set up which I use on the beach, diving, snorkeling, etc.

What model canon are you using and with what housing? I found the Canon Elph Sport APS Autofocus Point & Shoot but i'm not sure if its digital...I don't think it is. thanx for the help

the Olypus and I love it. Can use it up to 10 feet and 50 if you buy the extra case. It has an awesome zoom and the pics are really clear. I got a gig card and can take about 550 pics at High quality. Best option, motion stabilizer , kid at Best buy sold this to us by showing us this fab feature. Great for rides!!!

You cant go wrong with this one!
