Just a heads up ... The Real Canadian Superstore has underwater digital cameras on for $19.99. Here is a link to a review of the camera. I figure it pays for itself on one snorkeling excursion. I got two, so my DD and i won't fight! :lmao:

Hmm, I did want to get a waterproof for spots like the Splash Mountain descent, but didn't want to spend a couple hundred to do it. At $20, can't really go wrong. If the pictures don't turn out, oh well, I'm out $20. :)

We have this camera, and it is an okay camera, as long as you don't have expectations that it will be like an expensive camera. The photos are very grainy, and have less than ideal colour. I guess the best thing to compare it to is a disposable camera, which really it still is a great deal, because those disposable underwarer cameras are $12, so for just a few $$ more, you get to keep the camera! We let the kids use it when they are going somewhere and want to take their own photos, the 'waterproof' case keeps it from getting broken, or sand in it at the beach, and it really is waterproof too...

All I can say is boy have underwater cameras come down in price. And to think I spent over $1000.00 about 10 years ago to get my 35mm underwater camera. My they have come down in price, and alot easier to use too!!:rotfl2:

Do you have any of those pics you could share with us so we can see how they turned out?:)

I would look at some dive shops I know Travel Sport in London sells 7MP 3X optical zoom underwater digi cams for under 200.00 and the images look terrific so for me I would rather spend some more and get good pics than cheap out and get crap pics but that is just me. The camera is built by Olympus for another company. They have a couple models the one in stock now is 339.99 but still well worth the money. It cost us over that to get the underwater housing for our 11 year old daughters Canon powershot digital camera.

It really isn't that important to me....we usually use the regular water throw aways....just thought it would be nice to have the digital one instead, that way we could just put them onto the computer.

I am still hoping that someone has a pic they can share with us from using one.

Just be careful re the amount of distance you can go down into the water, some of them are only good for 1 1/2 meters!

Photos from the digital camera that the OP posted about being on sale. Sorry, I don't have any underwater ones, we mainly use this camera for the kids to take pics....but should give you an idea anyway. Taken outdoors, in daylight.

I am usually a really decent photographer, but as you can see, the quality just isn't there, they are really grainy and the colour is off too.

My husband purchased one called HERO when we were at Typhoon Lagoon. It is a reloadable waterproof camera. It was only $20.00! It also had a velcro strap that you attach to your wrist and you can flip the camera up to take pictures while snorkeling. He got it at the shop next to where you snorkel with the sharks.

I thought this was the best deal we found in Disney. I really thought they would mark it up.

The pictures are okay and it is great to use at the waterparks. Check out my avatar. That is my son underwater at the WL.

I saw another waterproof digital at WalMart yesterday for $25. Not sure of the brand, but I think it was different than the SuperStore one.

We have a decent underwater camera, but it takes film which really ups the cost of pictures these days. We're looking for a cheap underwater for using at the pool or beach, so we may pick up one of the WalMart ones. If so, I'll report back on it.

I bought the SS one and we played with it in the tub and then took it back. I do not know if it was just ours, but it was difficult to figure out the settings and then when we were taking photos, it did not make a sound or anything. We had no way of knowing if we had taken a picture. (It may be digital, but for $20 there was no pre-screen feature). It turned off on us twice and we kept snapping away, not knowing.
Considering you cannot see if your photo worked, you may as well buy the disposibles. The quality would be MUCH better.
Great tip though, I look forward to these. I do not mind being the guinea pig.

Hey Mom2Faith ... Have a great time on your first trip!!! Watch out though ... You might get hooked!!! I know I did! When in September are you going? Keep your eyes open for free dining. It's great if they offer it! If they do offer it, call Disney and have them add it!

If you want to get a decent underwater picture without breaking the bank, Olympus has an ebay store where they sell their reconditioned camera. I picked one up for apx. $150 and used it on our last vacation with pretty good results. It's great for snorkeling but not rated for scuba. Here is a sample of the camera's abilities.

It was shipped from Canada so I didn't have to pay duty.

I purchased the $24.00 camera from Walmart but won't use it until next week. I am willing to bet however that these Camera's do work best underwater and for land pictures stick to your everyday camera. How often will I use a underwater camera? Only often enough to pay $24.oo for it :)

What about the pics taken on dry land with that camera? I would like one that I can use at the beach and in the water. My regular camera is not an option for the beach, if it was stolen or got sand in it I would be crushed!

I would like one that I can use on our cruise next year, on the beach and in the water. :)
