My FIL keeps talking about doing this Underground Tour. Does anyone know about this?

It's called The Keys to the Kingdom Tour. I'm not sure on the price...somewhere between $50 & $60 pp. It includes lunch. It's about five hours. You need to make a reservation. You will need to use a day off your passes. You have to be over 16. We've never done it, but hope to for our trip in November. From what I understand, you will be in a group with a guide. You visit a couple rides, see the backstage area of the floats from the parades, and go underground in the tunnels. The phone number is (407) 939-8687. They used to offer discounts to Disney Club members. Not sure what the discounts are now, but ask when you call. Good luck! :D

We did this a few years ago and really enjoyed it. The price includes lunch which was at Columbia Harbor House. We learned many interesting things about MK and the Disney company from our guide. We had our own boat on the Jungle Cruise and our guide talked more about the history and workings of the ride instead of the usual ride jokes. We also got to go in the backdoor to HM and ride that without waiting in line. The Utilidors were a unique experience. We just walked around and the guide explained how they were used. We also went "offstage" and were able to look at the parade floats up close. No pictures were allowed "off stage". I would recommend this tour.

When you call to make reservations, the CM will tell you that everyone needs a photo ID. You will not be allowed to go on the tour if you do not have one on you.

The Backstage Magic tour takes you into the Utildor tunnels too! It also takes you behind the scenes in MGM and Epcot. It's more money, but my husband and I found it fascinating!

Made a reservation yesterday to do this tour next week. Leaves at 8:30, 9:00 and 9:30 from Tour Gardens near MK entry. Need to be there 15 minutes before tour starts. The cost with a Disney VISA card discount for two was $98 and includes lunch. Can be cancelled up to 48 hours. Yes, have to have photo ID.

It is highly recommended. Did anyone mention that there is a minimum age of (I think) 16?:earsboy:

Is there a minimum age requirement for this tour ?
My DD is 13 , can she go ?

Ron

During this tour, are you in some sort of vehicle, or is there much walking?

We did this tour and ABSOLUTELY loved it!!!

Yes it is a walking tour and you must wear comfortable shoes, because there is a lot of walking. There are also quite a few stairs to climb (just so you know).

The tour guide were so informative and took the time to answer all questions. The lunch was quite good and we were given bottled water to take along on the tour!!

Have a great time on the tour and on yor trip!!

Uh Oh! My FIL uses a wheelchair. :( Will this be a problem? He can get out of the chair and walk, but he has really bad arthritis in his feet, and can't walk for any length of time.

Your FIL will be fine in a wheelchair. My Mom did it a few years ago in an ECV. As far as the stairs go, your guide will assist you in locating the necessary elevators.

We're going a month from tomorrow!! This will be our first trip since DD has been old enough!

You get a 15% discount if you use your Disney Visa.

I didn't see this answered.

No, your daughter can't go. :( You must 16 and up to take the Keys to the Kingdom tour.

I've done both Keys to the Kingdom and Backstage Magic and loved both. The utilidor is my fav part. Yes you must be 16. HollyJoy, your FIL will do fine. I did the KTTK tour with 2 people in wheelchairs and Disney did an outstanding job, really made the tour very easy for them.

Have Fun!!!

I have a question. I would like to do the tour, but my wife is afraid that she will see something that will ruin "the magic." For example, a CM playing Mickey without his head on, or my favorite, Cinderella smoking a cigerette (that would be so hot....).

Those two are extremes, but does anything like that happen on The keys tour? :confused3

Snork- those things are possibilities- you go behind stage and see whatever haoppens to be happening at the time.

The KTTK tour is a walking tour- we walked 2.2 miles over the morning. Some people have said they stood for many of the stops on the tour but our guide always found us a spot to sit down.
