Underappreciated Jobs

Hey everyone. So I'm writing a paper for school about underappreciated jobs/carrers. So far I have crossing guard, dishwasher/busboy, and trashman. I need like 8-12 good ones, does anyone have any other suggestions? Sorry this thread is kind of unusual but I figured everyone here would have some ideas. Thanks for the help.

How about a comic store manager?

I have to deal with parents who think that I'm some bum who works in a comic store....they look down on me all of the time. Sheesh, I'm an intelligent young woman...and I'm not into comics!

The kids will not listen to me, the adults look down on me....it's a never ending cycle. I am laughed at by my coworkers because I'm not really "into" anything comic-y...except Harley Quinn.

I know it's a long shot, but worth trying :)

The people who empty septic tanks, nurses, teachers, and hospital housekeeping staff...

Maids, waitresses/waiters.

Having been a secretary (or administrative assistant if you'd rather) - I can say that is absolutely one of the most underappreciated jobs EVER. NOTHING would get done in an office without them.;)

Social Workers -- except here on the DIS! I've gotten great support here. But as a Child Welfare Worker, it really seems to be a "da*ned if you do, da*ned if you don't" situation.

Yeah I would have to agree with this one too.
It was always a surprise when I would get complimented on something. I know offices that would have crumbled without my help :)

Teachers

Nursing Home Aids - I can't imagine doing their job

Housekeepers at Hotels/Resorts

Trash Collectors

Moms =)

Custodians at schools, hospitals, malls, theme parks, etc.

Day care workers

Cashiers at a grocery store. Most people think they are uneducated and can't get another job. But that is not true. They take the brunt for everything that goes wrong in the store, they get yelled out for following policies set by the company, for asking for ID for alcohol...and just about anything that customers feel the have the right to yell about.

(can you guess what I do? Not cash, but train the cashiers)

My fellow colleagues working backstage in theater. Do you ever realize how many folks are behind the scenes. Lights, scenery, costumes, stage managers, Props, etc. Even before the show gets on stage its months worth of work. It's nice to hear the applause, but hard when you are talking to people and all they ever want to know is if you know famous people and what are they like. BTW This job is not nearly as underrated as motherhood. I am just trying to help with options.

Some people tend to think that we only work in daycare because we can't do anything else and that all there is to being a daycare worker is changing diapers & wiping noses. It was my best friend who helped me realize that being a daycare worker might not take a college degree but it does take a special type of person who is capable of making children feel loved and secure while their parents are away.

I think janitors and people who clean offices are under appreciated. I make sure I tell them thank you for picking up MY trash everyday. I also make sure I keep my office area tidy so that they do not have to clean my area as much as others.
