Under what conditions do they cancel Fantasmic?

Our trip is close enough that I can see the stormy stormy 10 day forcasts.

I'm trying to decide if we should keep our Fantasmic dinner package reservations. Does anyone know under what weather conditions Fantasmic would be canceled? I wouldn't want to sit out anywhere in a lightning storm, but rain I'd be ok with.

Due to it being much of a stage performance, if it rains (even lightly) before the show starts, they often cancel the show. If the weather is "risky" to be bad, you may want to do it another night since MK and EPcot do their fireworks even in the rain.

However, NOW if they do cancel the show, they do a short little fun thing to release all of the fireworks. It's pretty fun. It's just a way for you to still get to see the pyrotechnics.

It was the last night of our holiday when we visited two years ago and we attempted to see Fantasmic. Took our seats about an hour before - in the rain, thunder and lightning. The forecast for the day had been bad and we presented the same question to a CM who said that it was only cancelled with lightning. He explained that they would do all they could to ensure the show went ahead, even if that meant delaying the start.

While we were waiting I remember that we were kept informed of the likely events. In the end we had to leave becuase DD was very poorly but as we got to the car park the how had started. (luckily did get to see it the next year!)

This happened to us our last trip...we got our seats 40minutes before...it was a nice evening...but of in the far distance you could see fashes of light...10 minutes after the show was suspose to start the cancelled it due to the possiblity of bad weather. We never had park hoppers and this was the second last night of our trip. We were so disappointed. On the way to EPCOT the next day we were talking to a very nice bus driver and he told us that we should go to guest relations in EPCOT late afternoon and tell them how we really wanted to see the show. We did and we got free passes to MGM from 6:00pm to closing...the show was fablous! We even had time to go back to EPCOT to see Illuminations...it was a great way to end our trip!

It was canceled mid-way through the show this past Friday. Everything was fine until the water screens malfunctioned and didn't come on. They said they were unsure if they would be able to fix it for the 10:30 show. Luckily, my son and I were back to see it for the second time this trip.

As far as weather goes, on my trip in 2004 they just started a few minutes late because that allowed the weather to finish passing. They will broadcast an announcement every so often that the show may need to be canceled due to inclement weather.

They may also cut some sections of the show due to high winds.

FWIW, I am pretty sure you are locked into your Fantasmic dinner package regardless of whether the show runs or not due to weather. That is what we were told when our show was at risk of cancellation (fortunately the rain stopped in time). So if you don't want to have to commit to dinner if the show doesn't run, you may want to rethink your plans for a FDP.

Thank you for the answers. I'm thinking I'll just keep the reservations and hope for the best. We have to eat anyway!

Even if they have to cancel it, I'd rather wait 1/2 hour to get the word rather than an hour.

Hey I was at that one as well it ended up being a pump. I went back over just for the show while Dd and DW rested for the 2am MK romp.I let the boat captian know about it and he called it in to see if the 2nd show was still going off they came across saying it looked good as they could replace the pump.

I was dead center 4th row on the edge and noticed when the water screen came up the hugh center pump was going as well messing up the images.

As for the weather they do cancel it quick if the threat is close. My understanding is they have their own weather team and are very good at tracking storm paths .

It has a 48 hour cancellation policy. If you cancel outside of 48 hours, no penalty. If you cancel within 48 hours of the meal, you are charged $10 per person on the reservation -- not the full amount of the meal. If you actually show up for your dinner reservation, you are locked in for the full price of the meal, whether Fantasmic is cancelled or not. You do not get a seating pass for another night if the show is cancelled on your night, but you still get the dinner.

It can be performed in the rain. Some things may be cut out though. Last year it had been raining for a few hours before Fantasmic. The ops people kept the theater closed until about 30-40 minutes before the show was supposed to start. The show did end up going on, as the rain ended up slowing enough. There was almost no one at the 2 shows.

The vouchers for Fantasmic are "Free" with the meal so, at the least, you're not paying for something you didn't receive.

If you do the Fantasmic dinner package and go to the show, if it is cancelled due to weather, go to guest relations and they will give you a card to go another night, at least this is my experience. In fact it was cancelled 2 nights in a row due to lightning and I went to guest relations and got cards for the next night with out any hassle.
