Under the Dome by Stephen King with SPOILERS

Has anyone else read Under the Dome by Stephan King? I liked it, but I am not sure about the aliens in the end. Although, what other explanation could there be for the dome?

I do think Kings liberal political views are at the forefront of this novel. Clearly the conservatives are more on Big Jim Rennies side then Barbies.

Also, Kings classic motif of real people in extraordinary circumstances. This pressure brings out the good or evil in each. I always hope while reading these books that I would be on the side of the good, even though it is clear King thinks every person has the potential for either.

the whole fire situation really disturbed me. I knew they were building up to a fire but the destructive nature of it was shocking.

trying to picture that in my mind, was very difficult. Thinking about the people on the other side seeing it all live on tv. All those people gathered to see their families and they are almost vaporized by fire. Very disturbing image.

I really liked the book and couldn't put it down - read it in two days. But I thought the ending was stupid. Kind of like he couldn't figure out how to end it so he went with aliens.

But he does use rather stock characters in all his books. The reluctant hero. The nice person you know is going to die. Etc.

It wasnt too bad...certainly not The Stand. Sold it for 20 bucks on Craigslist after I was done.

Finished it a few days ago and I'm STILL ticked off.

Had great hopes for UTD, considering the large cast of characters and (somewhat) non-supernatural premise (ala "The Stand", my all-time favorite novel). Fabulous opening chapters!

About 1/3 the way in, started to lose interest. To me, the ending was a total cop-out. Oh, we were clearly warned 100's of pages back that aliens were somehow involved, but to have it all wrapped up in the last 10 pages???

I just finished it last night. It was good but I wasn't crazy about the ending.

Just finished it the other day. It was just ok. The resolution was a bit lame.

Any time I read a SK book and he introduces a family dog, or a cat, or hey, just any kind of animal, I always think "oh noooooooooo."

But he really surpassed himself this time with the animal killing, is all I can say.
Not to mention the human killing, even kids.

And I know he writes horror, but after awhile it crosses the line from scary to ridiculous.

I liked the book, but I hated the ending. I wanted a worse end for Rennie than he got. I hated that the dome was caused by alien children and I really hated the comparison to human children killing ants. The killing off of several key characters right at the end annoyed me too.

OK I feel better now that I got that all of my chest.
