Under age 12 in TSA pre-check

My boarding pass is TSA pre-check. I am traveling with my niece who is age 11. I know that if she were my own child she could go through the pre-check lane with me but she is my niece. Her boarding pass does not say TSA pre-check (not sure if kids' boarding passes ever do). Anyone ever taken a child who is not their own through TSA pre-check?

Last time I checked I was round about 13, and i went to NJ 1 year ago. I went through TSA just fine, so I don't think that matters, as you ARE the guardian.

I'd just take her with me through the pre-check and only if asked explain that she is traveling with you (no others in your party). They could direct you both to the regular line or perhaps subject her to a bit of extra security. I doubt either will happen.

He said he was with me when he got to the beginning of the lines and they just waved him through behind me. It wasn't all that busy that day, but the regular line was a lot longer. The pre-check TSA guy was smiling and told me (and the other lucky souls) not to get used to it, LOL.

Good advice, Carol. Obviously not a huge deal either way but last October when I flew Delta on a Tuesday the regular TSA line snaked back and forth and then ¾ of the way down Terminal 1 at MSP. I was SO grateful to be TSA pre-check, where there was no wait at all. The pre-check lines in Dec. and Jan. were getting longer because more people are using them but still faster than regular.

Recently my parents we flying back from FLL to BOS on JetBlue on the same reservation. My dad got the pre-check but my mother did not.

I know. DSis-in-law and I both got pre-check on the outbound flight but I did not get it on flight home. But children can get through on their parents' pre-check. I just don't know if children can get through pre-check if traveling with someone who is not their parent.

Thx. I will check out both lines in the morning. My last 3 trips from MSP the pre-check line has been shorter and moved faster but that may not be the case tomorrow.

It depends on which terminal your flying out of and time of day. Usually terminal 2 is faster. A reason I fly Suncountry if I have a choice.

Update: we both used pre-check with no problem. We were in Terminal 1 and the regular line was snaking then halfway down the terminal. We got through pre-check in about 5 minutes. Life is good.

On our last trip in December, my DD14 got the Pre-Check when nobody else in the family did.

She was willing to go over there (she is a very savvy traveler), but I made her stay with us .

Is pre check where they send you to the metal detectors rather than the body scanner?

Last time we travelled with our 5 and 10 yr old the entire family was sent to the metal detectors rather than the body scanner, both flights. Traveling with kids is great!

No, you did not go through TSA Pre Check, although it is true that if you do go through it, they use metal detectors rather than scanners.
