Hi There,

John and I are debating the merits of various wedding songs in advance of our wedding in January ... we'd like to find something a little uncommon. It's not that I have anything against Etta James or anything :) but I feel like I've heard the same five songs again and again. Any suggestions on an unconventional wedding song that's surprisingly touching/evocative and appropriate for a sweet slow dance?

Thx,
D

DD and DSIL danced to Shania Twain's "From this Moment". I have always liked the The Wedding Song (There is Love).

That is my wedding song too, 1-1-99. Well we used the duet with Bryan White ( my mind is drawing a blank I hope that is his name). :)

Not terribly unconventional, but we danced to "Love Is All" by Marc Anthony at our wedding. We just like the lyrics to it :)

Just don't use Angel from Aerosmith. It's cursed.

I really wanted In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel... but it didn't work out!

Another good one is True Companion Marc Cohn--I'm really not sure why we didn't do this one, we both liked it but went with another song.

Say Once More by Amy Grant (this was our wedding song)

I heard one the other day on my Ipod and thought "this would be a great different wedding song"... shame I can't remember which song it was.

Luther Vandross - Here and Now - I guess that's too common, though.

We danced to my favorite song, "On the Sunny Side of the Street" sung by Louis Armstrong. Our recessional was "I Will" from the Beatles' White Album. A song my DH was trying to have included was "All I Want Is You" by U2. (Bono is hot.)

Find a song that means something to you, that's my advice. :teeth:

Ribbons in The Sky - Stevie Wonder

Let It Grow - Eric Clapton

"Nothing at all" by Ronan Keating (I think...its been awhile). Its from the Notting Hill soundtrack. GREAT song!

My advice exactly, Dana! Look for a song that speaks to both your hearts and that's the song to use. Look beyond "traditional" wedding songs for a melody and lyrics that speak to you as a couple.

FTR, we chose "Thank You" by Led Zeppelin for our "first dance" wedding song. It was perfect and totally original--or so we thought. I've seen some "What Was Your Wedding Songs?" here on the DIS, and from them, learned we are far from the only people who chose it.

Our friends had "When I'm 64" by the Beatles. :sunny: Our first song to dance together was "You and I" by Stevie Wonder, but the band screwed up and played "Just You and I" by Eddie Rabbit. The lyrics to You and I are beautiful.

Must be a Jersey thing Janice. We had that as our weddign song also. My dh and I thought we were pretty original plus the song meant a lot to us. However we went to a wedding like 4 years later and when the dj played Thank You I said Oh My wedding song andhe said Yeah whos isn't it. :guilty:
