Unconfirmed PayPal Address--Ebay ??????

I just sold an item on ebay and the buyer paid with PayPal and the transaction page noted that their shipping address is unconfirmed.

What should I do with this info? I am a first time seller.

This just means they have a new account, and paypal has not yet confirmed it, not that it is a bad address. Wait for payment and once it is in your account, ship to the address they provide.

The payment is in my account so I guess that it will be ok to ship to the address that is provided in the transaction ID page. If anyone else has more advice, it would be appreciated.

I've had this happen several times.
Each time, as a precaution, after payment I e-mail the buyer
and put their given name/address in the body of my e-mail.
I then nicely request that they simply reply
to my e-mail & confirm that the address is correct.
I've never had anyone balk at this,
and never had a problem with their addresses.

unconfirmed does not mean new account. I have an unconfirmed address and I have had my account for over a year now. Here is what it means. They could have changed the way they pay and now their address is unconfirmed. If you can't get your address to match what is on your credit card statements or bank account statements it will go unconfirmed. It is perfectly ok!

I too have an unconfirmed address. As stated it occurs when the shipping address and credit billing address are not the same. In my case, I ship things to DH's office since i am not home during the day. I don't want to worry you, but if you are shipping anything expensive read the rules on unconfirmed address. I have had 2 shippers have issues with my address. One explained to me that he would lose his paypay protections if he shipped to me. From what he said, the issue I guess is someone taking over my account, buying something and shipping to themselves. I don't know if this is true but he made me change to my home address, confirm it and then send him a new payment (after he reject my 1st one). If this is true, it is a bit of a shame because many people want to ship to an address with someone available to receive it.

Most Canadians and International buyers have unconfirmed addresses. The system Paypal uses to confirm addresses doesn't always work with international ones. I wouldn't worry.

I had the same thing happen for the first time this week with one of my buyers. In this case, it doesn't seem like it was because the buyer was shipping to a work address because when I went onto www.whitepages.com, the address shown for the name I entered matched exactly the unconfirmed address on the PayPal statement. Odd.

You shoud never ship to an unconfirmed address. I use eBay and PayPal alot. Their seller protection policy states that you must ship to a confirmed address to be eligable for their seller protection policy. If you ship to an unconfirmed address you void the rights and are wide open for a chargeback and dispute filed from your buyer.

There are known scams out there that prey on uneducated paypal users. To be eligable for the seller protection policy you must ship to a confirmed address, use an online form of tracking (i.e. UPS or USPS Delivery Confirmation) and ship within 7 days of payment.

If you have any questions please feel free to pm me. I'm not saying that all people with unconfirmed addresses are out to scam but there are some people who will try to take your item and then file a chargeback. I have done a lot of reasearch and put many years into eBay and PayPal and I know how their systems work.

Now, most people are honest and won't do this, so you have to decide whether you want to take the risk or not. The process of confirming an address is very, very easy and very, very quick, so it's not like it is asking much of someone to confirm their address.

My shipping address is unconfirmed because it is my place of employment. I try to always put that in the comments field. I have had a couple of sellers e-mail me to verify address and I tell them about POE they are fine. I've had my e-bay account for about 3 years.

I have an uncomfirmed address because we switched to a P.O. Box after having mail stolen from our mailbox. Our unconfirmed PO box is much safer than our mailbox. I also have things shipped to my employment address which is also uncomfirmed because it is safer. Debby

I use online bill paying, but my credit card account still has my home address on it. I'm 99.99% certain that you can't have a credit card without having a "real" address on file where the credit card company can find you.

I don't argue with people wanting to ship to a different address - that is your choice, and I can understand it - but the seller loses their protection through Paypal when they ship to an unconfirmed address, period. Like it or not, that is how the system works.

That is not how the system works. I have been dealing with Ebay and paypal for almost 5 years now. Just the other day, I had to file a claim against a seller because the item was damaged. Well she lied and I lost the claim. I have an unconfirmed address. So it doesn't always work as you claim it does. Also, I have an unconfirmed address because we moved so the address w/ the credit card company at the time and my paypal address were different. So now it's unconfirmed.

Sellers don't lose their protection at all as I have just proved.

We ship on E-bay a lot. If we come across an "unconfirmed" address we always send an E-mail to the buyer asking for Address verification. Once we receive that we save a copy of the e-mail and ship the package to that address. If you are concerned about not being covered, maybe you should place a clause in your Payment information that says "Insurance is required if you have an unconfirmed address through paypal".

There are also many times you will ship to someone who doesn't even pay through paypal (i.e. Moneyorder / personal check) Those address will never be covered through paypal either as they are not confirmed E-mail addy's.

That's because you filed a damage claim, which has nothing to do with where an item is shipped. If someone wants to defraud the seller, all they have to do is have the item shipped to an unconfirmed address and then claim that they never purchased or received the item, and the seller loses their money from the transaction plus a $10 chargeback fee. That's the loss of protection that I am referring to.

I used to have an unconfirmed address, but I also had a 100% positive feedback with a couple of hundred transactions at the time. I had an unconfirmed address simply because I didn't use a credit card, I paid by e-check. If your buyer has good feedback, I wouldn't worry about it. Just confirm by email that the address is correct.
