Uncertainty with Traveling

We made the decision to keep our November WDW reservation and also went ahead and booked a trip for February with the plans to activate our Gold APs we purchased back in January 2019. I felt that things were on the upswing and felt hopeful that fireworks would be happening and masks would be a thing of the past once November rolled around. Well, yesterday my DH's heart doctor said that he thought there would be a resurgence by November but said it was safe for us to travel since we are vaccinated. This has me worried though that we will be back to lots of restrictions. Not sure I want to travel if that is the case. Anyone else have uncertainty about traveling to WDW with so much up in the air?

I don’t think the resurgence will be like the ones we saw over the fall/winter. From what I’ve seen in models, a resurgence will probably be with numbers where they are right now. I doubt Disney will do much to reinstate any restrictions unless there are some crazy variants that render the vaccines useless. Not an expert by any means but I’ve spent more time than I care to admit researching this since I’m such an anxious type A person.

If I wasn't DVC and had saved my points for this year, I wouldn't be going until it was completely back to normal. We went in April. We didn't mind the masks, We missed the shows, parades, fireworks, FP+. Renting my points left me with a very bitter taste in my mouth with the way the brokers handled it. So won't be doing that again.
You need a supercomputer to get on a virtual queue. This was me each morning seconds before 7 to get on the queue. Total time taken for these actions was 5 seconds: 1st click, "Too Early", 2nd click, "Too Early", 3rd click, "Too Late". So my wife and I essentially had a daily walk through the parks because lines were too long just to enter a store. Or we went to other parks like Universal and Seaworld. At Seaworld, there were hardly any lines. I walked on the coaster and sat in the front. there was only one other person on the ride sitting in the back.

We have a trip for late 9/22 - 10/2. Because it was the Food & Wine and MK Anniversary, we had to commit very early. But now, F&W won't officially start until October and all the promised new rides for the 50th, won't be open. So I can do the uneventful 50th or the F&W provided I can change my park reservation to Epcot.
I have another for early December with my sisters family to use up the remaining points I saved because she wanted to come down to see the decorations and enjoy the Christmas Party. I fear with the Boo Bash having such high interest, they won't to the christmas party and do a much smaller scale "unevent" at the exorbitant price.

I would really like to bank my points for 2 years and hope it improves. But I fear this is the sign of things to come where there is no more magic and it is just another theme park.

My wife and I were talking about selling yesterday. If I were to sell now, I would make a 150% return in what I paid originally for both contracts.

We're going for F & W and can't wait! Boo Bash! Halloween! Party of eight in four villas.

We've all been vaccinated. One of our guests ended up in the hospital with covid and now is completely vaccinated (even if it was unnecessary) and ready to live life again. We are tired of living in a state of fear...we could get hit by a bus or a falling meteor, who knows?
Our son is medical with lots of initials after his name and we trust him...trip is on! pixiedust:

FWIW, we have a reservation at WDW for Oct. I’m not looking forward to it and, unless something big changes, we will likely cancel. I’m just not into flying cross country right now … seems like too much effort just to sit at a resort all week even if the resort is lovely and in FL.

I’m holding out on, “We’ll go … but only if we drive.” It isn’t likely that hubby will want to take that much time … so we’ll likely cancel.

Elements contributing to my feelings:
  • #1, highest priority: I am on a day streak with my OneWheel (presently #69 of ~35k participants) and don’t want to end it. The OneWheel can’t go on an airplane … thus the desire to drive cross county and back so we can lug the OWs.
  • We don’t have WDW APs at present. I don’t care to purchase “day by day” tickets.
  • We’ve visited DL since its reopening and “the itch is scratched.” During the long closure I’ve found that we’ve outgrown Disney parks. (I blame the OW for that … these are too much fun!)
  • I’m taking a strong “wait and see” position on the return of APs to DL and WDW.
  • I’m not keen to waste time/effort/money driving cross country right now. Doesn’t seem like fun … but we’ll see how I feel after our CO trip in August. Maybe that trip will reinvigorate me on road trips …

what do you mean F&W won’t start until October? From what I’m seeing it’s starting in July.

It starts on July 15th, out of the expected approximately 32 booths, there are 9 that will not open until October 1st. I'm fine with that!

According to another blog I follow that specializes in Disney Food, the official start of the festival and when many of the food booths will open is OCT 1st.

I just booked flights for Thanksgiving Week. Masking, personally, doesn't bother me. Anticipating 70% of people will be vaxxed by then, so I don't think there will be a major resurgence, unless some sort of aggressive variant comes up. If we have to mask, so be it. Up until recently, we thought we'd have to anyway. Big trip with 11 people has been planned for a year, walked reservations for Grand Villa and a 2 Bedroom...so unless something drastic happens, we're going. All the adults in the group are vaxxed. So I need to book Magical Express, and it appears the DVC Member website is down. Now it's back...pesky 502 error.

What I am worried about is Disney reinstating restrictions--especially if they do it at a moment's notice with no time to cancel. I'm also an anxious type A person (although I try not to be), thus the thread.

This is what I am worried about with Disney as well. We have also thought of selling our points, but I do want to enjoy a few trips with future grandkids so owning these points is probably going to be the most economical way of doing it (at least as far as the accommodations go). Plus in the meantime, we can use our AKV points at HHI which we love better.

It's not the fear of the virus that causes me pause. I'm not afraid at all. We are vaccinated, plus DH's heart doctor says no need to worry. I just don't want all the restrictions on vacation. My DH and I have worked in schools this year, having to wear masks just about every day. I want a more normal vacation.

I think this also happened to me. During the pandemic, I sensed a stronger love toward less crowds and more nature. I still want to go to WDW some but not as much as I once did.

Sometimes a “time out” is a good thing.

We were humbled through the experience as we rediscovered how truly blessed we were. Responding to a variety of changes over recent years, before Covid hit, I’d moved into the mountains and moved the horses from boarding to our backyard. I’ve enjoyed plenty of space to be outdoors, playing every day in my “horse garden.” It was a healthy and happy place to be.

Yeah, not so excited to be in crowds. Not so excited to be moving through a day with no particular purpose (gain).
