Unbelievable - a mob attacked these people for nothing

Akron police investigate teen mob attack on family
...
Akron police say they aren't ready to call it a hate crime or a gang initiation.
...
Out of nowhere, the six were attacked by dozens of teenage boys, who shouted ''This is our world'' and ''This is a black world'' as they confronted Marshall and his family.

It wasn't for nothing. The mob was shouting the reason. It's just not politically correct to call black on white crime a hate crime or racism. But it is a hate crime and racism, as surely as the reverse is.

And for the record, I think 'hate crime' is nothing more than 'thought crime' and should be banned. The crime is the attack. The motivation is irrelevant.

If anyone hears about this family setting up a fund for paying both their medical bills, and hopefully a lawyer, please tell me about it here. I don't typically throw donations around but the idea that this family could be left defenseless because they are the wrong color to be victims turns my stomach. What is this the 1930's in reverse?

I was just to post the same thing, about the donations. I also agree with you about it being 1930 in reverse. Any color on any color is wrong. Haven't we learned that yet?

OP: Keep us posted on the developments.

The construction worker mentions arming himself which is absolutely what he needs to do to protect his family from future assault. The best the APD seem able to do is show-up after the assault on the family has already occurred.

If he had shot one of the black thugs, the media would have twisted the story to make the construction worker the perpetrator of a hate crime.

Disgusting situation but not surprising.

Yep, that's what they need a city of vigilantes running around armed and ready to shoot the first person of color who says boo!

Am I missing something here? Are the police of Akron saying they are not going to do anything? Are they not investigating what happened? Why not just see if the Akron police do their job? If some or all of these boys are arrested and charged with assault or attempted murder, is that not enough? I would think that for someone to be charged with a hate crime certain things have to be proven and maybe the law just isn't sure those things can be proven. Maybe they would rather see them charged and convicted of assault than charged and aquited of a hate crime?

Read this thread and you can certainly see how a "mob mentality" works. Ya'll are ready to string 'em up and watch 'em hang; along with Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and they haven't done a thing (in this particular incident)

You're probably right, however, the assault on his family wouldn't have happened or certainly would have been lessened, and the cowards who attacked his family wouldn't be able to attack another innocent family. The article states that the perps are still on the loose:furious:.

While your question is highly rhetorical, my answer is "YES," you are missing something.

As far as I know, the article is not about an incident where "a person of color said boo." It is about a group of thugs ATTACKING AN INNOCENT FAMILY ON THIER PROPERTY. And, no, it's not enough to arrest them. There is no guarantee this group will not attempt to assault others in the interim or that they will ever even be caught. No family should ever feel they must succumb to the ill will of others. They have a right to protect themselves on their own property. Just this year Ohio passed the Castle Doctrine which affirms a citizen's right to protect themselves and their family on their property, and expands the definition of said property. It would seem you disagree with the state adopting this doctrine and with the construction worker's right to defend himself and his family.

Yep, I think you may be missing the fact that the Police Department 'doing it's job, is to brush this kind of crime away... My guess is that many people realize that nobody will be arrested... and if they are, the charges will not stick. No way that these poor victims, this poor innocent family, have any hope of justice because the authorities are simply not willing to fully pursue and prosecute this heinous crime. All because of what... the color of the perpetrators skin. Make no mistake... these criminals are EMBOLDENED by the fact that they know that they can behave like this... They know that they an always fall back on 'the race card'.

The Statement made by the Akron police department is downright unbelievable. Instead of "This was a despicable and violent assault, and we will make sure to bring the perpetrators to justice... PERIOD. The whole statement is nothing but placation and excuses. :sad2:

Arming yourself for protection does not make you a vigilante.

I don't understand. The attackers were of one race (black) and the victims were of another race (white). The attackers shouted "This is our world" and "This is a black world." The victims did nothing to provoke the attack. How is this not considered a hate crime? If it was the other way around (white attacking black) it would have been pegged racism and a hate crime right off the bat. I'm disgusted and it boggles my mind that this isn't considered racism/hate crime.

And for the record, I would be disgusted if it were whites who attacked blacks.

I think it should be a hate crime too but a couple of weeks ago, when Eric Holder was interviewed by congress, he said that groups that were "not historically mistreated", would not be included in hate crime legislation.:sad2:

I agree with you in principle, but as long as there are going to be prosecution of "hate crimes", they should be applied equally.

While Justice is supposed to be blind apparently sometimes its deaf and dumb.

If the situation occurred as the victims said it did, then it is most certainly a hate crime. And I would agree, if the situation occurred as the victims said it did, that is was a hate crime that the police are not too anxious to label as such, probably for fear of causing all out war in Akron.

And yes, here is a double standard, and yes, it's a shame, and yes, Revs. Al & Jesse fan the flames.

Welcome to America.

As reported this is a hate crimer, period. Not handling it in the same manner as if the races were reversed only makes Akron look bad it can also change how some middle of the road folks look at relating to others. The featured story on CNN earlier was a dispute about an inner city day care losing access to a private pool they had contracted for. A dispute to be settled for sure but this beating should have made it over that. PC going insane.

I never said the assault that happened was just a person of color saying boo. I said that NOW after the fact, the city does not need everyone armed and ready to shoot the first person of color that says boo. You did not read what I said.

It was an assault and I think that the boys should be prosecuted for it. My question in my pp was "would it be enough if the boys are arrested and prosecuted for assault.

When I asked if I was missing something, I was asking if the police department of the city of Akron is just not doing anything at all or are they just not doing it in the way you all think they should. Are they investigating the crime? Are they just ignoring it? The article in the OP said it was being investigated and that the gang unit was involved; which is why I asked if I was missing something.

Look, I know hate crime ok? I live in the good ole' boy south. My son (who is white) was severely beaten by white bouncers at a local night club. Their reason? They assumed that his gf (now his wife) is mixed race. They didn't like him dating a black (not the word they used) girl. Oh, and because he wouldn't bend the bib of his hat and he wore a "grill" over his top teeth. (the hat thing is something that for some reason is usual for young black men and teens--I have no idea why). He never said a word to these guys, in fact they were leaving the club at the time. The bouncers and manager of the club have since all been fired and are not allowed to work in that type of business anymore and several were prosecuted for this assault and another one.

Its a scary thing to think someone can hate another person that much. Especially when that hate is geared toward you or someone you love.

These bouncers were not charged with a hate crime even though we all knew that is exactly what it was. But they did serve time for aggravated assault on my son and on another patron of the bar.

This situation in Akron, if it happened the way it was said, was a hate crime; I am not denying that. Just remember there are three sides to every story. The victim may not be telling everything either, which in no way excuses what happened or even gives reason to it; but may change the crime from a "hate crime".

Part of what I meant in my pp was if "hate crime" cannot be proven what would be the point of charging them with it. "Aggravated assault" can be proven and would send the boys to jail. Does it matter what charge sends them to jail as long as it gets them off the street? When my son was beaten, we didn't care what the charge said as long as they served some time for it and were banned from working in those types of environments again.

I don't have a problem with any doctrine or law in the state of Ohio, I don't live there; it has no bearing on me. Guns are not exactly outlawed in Mississippi. I just don't think someone should say things that gets every Tom, Dick and Harry thinking they need to be armed. When you start saying things that makes people get the "race war" mentality going, you are treading on dangerous ground.

And according to the article quoted, it was not ON THEIR OWN PROPERTY, they were gathered outside a friends home. They could have been on the sidewalk. Which is really irrelevant to the case, but since you were so adamant about it, I thought I would point that out.

Exactly. This is why I'm armed every time I leave the house.

yep, and if the races were reverse ******* sharpton would be all of the news calling for justice.

This is like saying UNCF scholarships are only for black students.

If the family calls Sharpton and request his help, he will help them.

Yep, that's what they need a city of vigilantes running around armed and ready to shoot the first person of color who says boo!

I still think you are missing A LOT....

And, to answer the above question... If a group of white guys went and found a black family and did what has been described... yes, as everyone has posted.... the black advocacy groups would all the heck over it... These white guys would definitely, without a doubt, be assumed guilty of a hate crime. (And, it would most definitely BE a hate crime) So, in answer to your question... If the tables were turned and the whites would be accused and prosecuted of a hate crime, then ABSOLUTELY, anything but equality would NOT be enough.

And, here is another big issue.... this is not an isolated incident that happened with a couple of idiots at a night club. This was a gang lynching! This was apparently a large group (gang) of people of one race going out and lynching a person of another race. (unless the victims are outright lying....)

This is nothing like the example you just gave...
Not at all....
Not even close.

As far as the action/inaction of the Akron police department... I think the comments that were quoted smack of excuses, placation, reverse racism, etc.... I think that you are missing the fact that everyone knows that there will be no justice.

And, yes, when the powers that be simply abdicate their responsibility to protect and serve and bring justice..... People feel the need to protect themselves....

My husband is commissioned, he has a concealed carry permit, his Glock is like American Express, he never leaves home without it.
