Unappreciated

What if Disney feels unappreciated by you because you go multiple times a year but you aren't willing to buy into DVC :)

I've been reading this site for a long time and always check the forums. The above quote has to be one of the dumbest quotes I've ever read.

Not even close IMO. I've read some that are far beyond this one.

Divequest 20%... nice!

New spa perks.... :hyper:

No daily housekeeping
No ticket discounts except APs
No free dining
Plus because Disney reserves some DVC rooms to offer to the public, we might not even be able to get a DVC reservation. One of my friends and her family were members. They could only go at a certain time of year because of job and children's commitments. After trying and failing for 3 years to get a reservation at the Beach Club, their home resort, they sold their membership.

What extras?

I consider no daily housekeeping to be a perk.

To utilize offsite restaurants, one must have a car, or shell out for a taxi. I don't get a car. I'm glad to be able to get TIW even though I have to pay for it.

Over the life of the contract, an approximate 60% room discount. I value my points at about $8 a point. That's the original cost over the life of the contract plus dues. The studio I had in November was 20 points, so about $160 a night. Vs $437 full price. Free dining requires a full price room.

The rooms that they offer to the public are ones that DVC itself owns and rooms turned over due to member trade outs. For example, a member uses points for a Disney cruise. A points room goes to CRO to rent to the public to pay for the cruise.

In over 14 years, I've never not been able to get the reservation I wanted when booking at 7 months or more.

Anyone who is unhappy with what they are getting should sell their membership. The resale market is high right now. Another option is renting your points, that is also up, people are hunting down points to get a better discount than Disney is offering. If DVC is such a bad deal, why are they doing that?

Nothing about Disney is a good deal. :)

But renting DVC points might be the closest thing if somebody was ready to pay rack rate for a villa.

This was not a DVC event. It was at Stormalong Bay and is a weekly activity for everyone. It had nothing to do with DVC. I have nothing againsed DVC but it's not for our family. This is Disneys way of making you feel like you should be part of something you're not. It's the corporate machine that makes these decisions.

Here's why. It took place at a resort that includes DVC villas. Those that are DVC owners get a $2 discount. You didn't pay extra because you're not 'in the club'. We did the tee shirts over at BW, at Luna Park. There were a bunch of people doing it. Those that had their DVC cards got a discount. Works the same at all DVC resorts....DVC members pay a lower amount. Now, if you go to a non-DVC resort, and want to do an activity? Everyone pays the same.
For the life if me, I can't imagine anyone getting upset because a few people got a $2 discount. It's an activity that's open to anyone.

DVC members get 10% off any purchase at Disney (merchandise). Am I missing something? DVC resort or not.

We don't have any interest in DVC. There's no real incentive to be locked up into a contract for us, and we like the room nice and clean every day. The DVC discounts don't really start paying off until many years into your contract, and we have other places to vacation.

Not sure what you mean. Merchandise is different than an activity. And still.....DVC gets a discount, non-DVC guests aren't paying extra. They're paying the regular cost.

Heres what they get:

10% discount at all Disney owned and operated merchandise locations.

Discount is not valid on previous purchases or on purchase of ticket media, gift certificates, Disney Gift Cards, Park admission, arcades, Disney Dollars, tobacco, alcohol, outdoor vending (e.g., in-Park balloon vendors, glow vendors), Add-a-Dollar (Wildlife Conservation Fund), postage stamps, rentals (e.g., strollers, Electronic Convenience Vehicles), personolization, Disney's PhotoPass online, framed Disney Dollars, Artist Sketch Program (original art), original or consignment art, newspapers/periodicals, videos, DVDs, CDs, sundries, pantry/prepared foods, digital/video/disposable cameras, consumer electronics, Titleist and COBRA golf equipment, national-branded fragrances, treatments and cosmetics, Lladro, Armani, Hummel, Swarovski Crystal, Walt Disney Classics Collection, select collectible originals, handmade items, special orders, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and Pirates League packages, shipping, or taxes. A valid Disney Vacation Club Member ID must be presented at time of purchase to receive discount. May not be combined with any other discount, offer, or promotion.

Annual passholders get the same.

My DD and I vacation annually and have thought of buying into DVC a few times.. Taking tours, talked to DVC agents and almost signed on the dotted line... and if I would have done that years ago - it would have been paid off by now. IMO - people purchase DVC as an investment first and then look at it as a place to stay. Instead of investing in DVC, I decided to invest in Disney Stocks years ago. NOW!! there is only one primary thing you expect from this investment is to make money. Disney stock hit a few pennies over 80.00 last week... Maybe one day I can buy a house in Orlando. If anyone does not feel appreciated...... Let me say I appreciate everyone visiting Disney and I can honestly say :welcome: HOME.

DVC is anything but an investment. All it is is a way to discount hotel rooms over the long term

Disney does seem to be all about DVC resorts lately but I think that it's because it's easy, quick money for them. I don't think that they somehow like DVC members more.

Agree they are all about selling DVC not necessarily the members

Really? What about the $149 off annual passes? What about the current limited time promo of $270 off premium annual passes?

What about pool hopping? What about TWOL at BLT, members only?

There is a long list of other member discounts on the member website:

https://dvc.disney.go.com/members/member-extras/perks-and-discounts

You're a new member, when you signed your contract did you not know what it included? All that is included in the contract is a place to stay. That's what you bought.

Sure I'd love more perks but I'm grateful for what we do get. When I bought in 1999, there was no annual pass discount. There was a 10% discount on length of stay tickets. The regular AP discount we have is about 25% off.

I knew about the discount on AP's I didn't notice the rest (I was not that interested?)

But really we are not getting a free meal plan or free tickets. We get the same 10% discount on merchandise as you would with a AP.

I almost get the feeling here some view it as a crime that people buy into DVC. I feel like it is viewed that people like me who buy into DVC is ruining everyone else's Disney experience.

It is a strange relationship DVC and Disney. Not quite a time share, not quite an exclusive club like a country club. I don't think people really know what to think.
:). But I think you just enjoy yours if you like it.

I'm so a DVC owner and I'm not really sure what OP thinks we get?? Aside from being able to stay in an upscale resort that I wouldn't normally be able to pay out of pocket for and 10% off on merchandise there's really not much else.
I only buy AP when I know we will go twice in 1 year so it's not like I use that perk too often.....

I'd kill to be able to utilize that free dining that I've had prior to dvc but that was a former life....

At our last stay at Beach Club I had an eye opening experience. We went down to the pool where they were having a make your own Mickey tye dye t-shirt activity, which had a fee attached. It wasn't a problem that there was a fee, but when I went to pay, they asked me if I was part of DVC, when I said no they added two dollars to the price! It bothered me then and it bothers me now. I feel like I was penalized because I wasn't part of the "club". It left me with a sour taste and I don't feel the same way about Disney anymore. That was just one of too many things that have changed for the worse so we are now looking at other vacation options. I'm not saying they owe us anything but they do cater to DVC because it makes them a boatload of money. Oh well....moving on. There are many more places to go in this world. You can see by our ticker that we don't hate Disney, This trip will be our last for a while.

Mmmmm was it like a 20 fee.... which would be 18 with dvc discount??
You probably paid full price. Not dvc price plus an additional 2 dollars.

On our visit in Nov we were asked at a lot of the shops if we were DVC members. I am guessing to see if qualify for a discount.

If you'd kill to be able to utilize free dining, why in the world did you buy DVC...? I mean you could have saved yourself a ton of cash upfront and gotten exactly what you'd kill for lol.

Anyways when you break it down and compare apples to apples (a deluxe room) DVC usually saves you way more than any Disney discount does. You sound like someone forced a DVC membership on you and you're longing for the days before it. I'll take it off your hands ;).
