Unappreciated

We don't have any interest in DVC. There's no real incentive to be locked up into a contract for us, and we like the room nice and clean every day. The DVC discounts don't really start paying off until many years into your contract, and we have other places to vacation.

I don't understand why they don't service the rooms...that seems strange.

DVC is a timeshare. Members buy a part-ownership of a resort, and then pay their share of the operating costs of the resort. Landscaping, utilities, property taxes, housekeeping, transportation, etc. That's what the maintenance fees cover.

Currently, stays on points get a full cleaning every so many days, and trash removal and towel replacement every so many days. And of course, units are fully cleaned between guests. If we were to go to full cleanings every single day, our maintenance fees would go through the roof. And many members (myself included) would rather not have housekeeping in the rooms every day. I don't need it, and I don't particularly want to pay the hefty dues increase for a service I don't even want. It's supposed to be a home-away-from-home situation, and I'd much rather make my own bed than have housekeeping barging in when I'm trying to sleep in on my vacation.

So, members who do want additional cleaning services or extra towels can pay for them out of pocket. Fees are reasonable, and this way, people only pay for the services they want. Personally, I prefer it to the hotel model, where I pay for housekeeping every day whether I want it or not.

If you'd kill to be able to utilize free dining, why in the world did you buy DVC...? I mean you could have saved yourself a ton of cash upfront and gotten exactly what you'd kill for lol.

Anyways when you break it down and compare apples to apples (a deluxe room) DVC usually saves you way more than any Disney discount does. You sound like someone forced a DVC membership on you and you're longing for the days before it. I'll take it off your hands ;).

Not all all. Nobody forced anythibg on us. I love being a dvc owner!!! I'd never give it up. Cash upfront was never a big deal for us. I just enjoyed the idea of the free dining.

Just so you know, as a DVC member, there is not any special appreciation. The only good perk is the rate for an AP...but to put that into perspective, if you go more often, you spend more money on property.

This!

As for the pricing for the activity at the Beach Club, I know that at OKW when you check in you are given an activity calendar for the week. On that calendar, under each activity, it should have pricing for said activity. And it usually says a price for DVC and non-DVC members.

I'm wondering if you got an activity calendar where the pricing was clearly laid out and just didn't bother to notice it.

In the past there have been numerous activities at OKW that are sometimes free for members and are not for non-members. And I believe that members are able to rent movies for free and non-members have to pay a fee.
