hi,
liberals love the un because it's not the US. liberals love the un because it "helps" people. but guess what, the UN is nothing at all what it pretends to be. the UN is incredibly biased, incredibly corrupt, and incredibly ineffectual.
have a genocide going on somewhere? let's have the UN take care of it! gee, they sure did a good job in bosnia, not. and what about dafur and the sudan? nope. they sure do care about people, don't they. and what about getting medicines to the poor iraqis suffering under sanctions before the war. they had that innovative "oil for food" program, remember? and then we found out the real deal. complete corruption. and the french helped, too.
remember the league of nations? well, that was a body formed after ww1 whose sole purpose was to prevent a 2nd world war. not successful, no more league of nations. and now, the UN too, must be dumped into the dust bin of history as another utopian scheme that failed.

gee, wonder how hezbollah was so successful in evading israeli attacks? wonder how they got away with so much infrastructure, arms, and munitions, and terrorists intact? well, guess no longer - the un was helping them all along!

just tonight, just now it is posted that UNIFIL in southern lebanon was posting israeli troop movements in real time on their website so that their hezbollah buddies knew what israel was doing on the battlefield. not the actions of a supranational body concerned about world peace, eh?

look, check it out:
DURING THE RECENT month-long war between Hezbollah and Israel, U.N. "peacekeeping" forces made a startling contribution: They openly published daily real-time intelligence, of obvious usefulness to Hezbollah, on the location, equipment, and force structure of Israeli troops in Lebanon.

UNIFIL--the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, a nearly 2,000-man blue-helmet contingent that has been present on the Lebanon-Israel border since 1978--is officially neutral. Yet, throughout the recent war, it posted on its website for all to see precise information about the movements of Israeli Defense Forces soldiers and the nature of their weaponry and materiel, even specifying the placement of IDF safety structures within hours of their construction. New information was sometimes only 30 minutes old when it was posted, and never more than 24 hours old.

this is from the Weekly Standard in a story just now posted.

now that we know the truth about the UN israel's claims about the UN's bias against israel is proven, as if we didn't already know. un activities could well have been material in the course of the recent israel-hezbollah war.

this is a disgusting turn of events and another example of un lies, perfidy, and hypocrisy. the un actively supported and materially assisted a terrorist organization against a democratic state. the un is reprehensible. there is no other word.

the un is today's league of nations. maybe even worse. disband the un.

The nations on the UN only have their own interest at heart...not the worlds.

This isn't a liberal versus conservative issue: There are lots of folks on both sides who believe the UN is faulty. Similarly, there are lots of folks on both sides who support the continued existence of the UN.

Do you actually know about anything that the UN has accomplished? For example:

Promoting Women's Rights, the UN *has supported programs and projects to improve the quality of life for women in over 100 countries, including credit and training, marketing opportunities, etc.

Providing Safe Drinking Water, this has been made available to 1.3 billion people in rural areas during the last decade.

The UN is helping to eradicate Smallpox * through vaccinations and monitoring. It has helped wipe out polio from the Western Hemisphere, with global eradication expected soon.

The UN has pressed for Universal Immunization of polio, tetanus, measles, whooping cough, diphtheria and tuberculosis * has a 80% immunization rate, saving the lives of more than 3 million children each year.

Helped to Reduce child mortality rates, which have been halved since 1960, increasing the average life expectancy from 37 to 67 years.

Helped in fighting parasitic diseases, such as saving the lives of 7 million children from going blind from the river blindness and rescued many others from guinea worm and other tropical dis

Clearing land mines - The United Nations is leading an international effort to clear land minds from Afghanistan, Angola, Cambodia, El Salvador, Mozambique, Rwanda and Somalia.

Limiting deforestation and promoting sustainable forestry development *in 90 countries.

Protecting consumers' health *have established standards for over 200 food commodities and safety limits for more than 3,000 food contaminants.

There are lots of other positive things that the UN has accomplished. Granted I don't agree with all of their decsions, especially with regard to the Security Council. However I do think that to state that the UN is "incredibly ineffectaul" undermines the positive outcomes that it has achieved!

I agree. The UN seems to be rather ineffective in several important ways, but that doesn't mean it should be scrapped.

I agree. It's time for the UN to go away.

yes, of course. and mussolini made the trains run on time. nope, sorry.
and let's not even talk about the effectiveness of un's eradication of landmines program. this is a matter, like most all international issues like this for NGOs.

the un is NOT neutral. they are a hypocritical corrupt organization. they actively support terrorists. they are reprehensible. nauseating is a better term, actually. they need to be abolished without doubt.

The UN is certainly not perfect. There are many issues that need to be resolved. But scrapping systems that don't work perfectly isn't the answer. We could not participate in the system ourselves, but that seems like throwing in the towel to me. It just seems like the easy way to solve problems now is never to actually solve anything....get rid of it or bomb it away.

nope. an organization as corrupt as the un, that has completely turned its back on its charter and actively supports terrorists during a War on Terror must be abolished.

i suppose you would say the same thing about the league of nations, oh, ww2 is just a temporary setback, let's not scrap an organization just because it isn't perfect!

not.

kofi annan and his pals need to get real jobs, and the un needs to go away. wait, kofi annan probably should have a job making license plates.

moderator,
i do not recall any rude comments. i used the word "genuflect" which means to bow. perhaps you misunderstood.
lindalinda suggested that i was excessively regal in my posts. i replied in the way i just stated. your removal of the two posts is an overreaction on your part.
just go on ahead and close the thread.

for my benefit and others who may be unaware of the rules of the board and the thread, please provide a list of terms that you find insulting and rude. i would hate to offend my fellow disers and certainly not the thread moderator.

The guidelines you agreed to when you registered are located here: Guidelines for Posting

In short, anger, sarcasm and rude personal comments are disallowed. And I believe you'll find my vocabulary to be reasonably broad, and to include the term "genuflect". It was actually your reference to the other party's "absurd arguments" that was objectionable.

Hope that helps to illuminate the sort of posts that are not appropriate here. If you have any further questions, please let me know.

thank you for the link.
if you are truly concerned about anger, sarcasm, and rude personal comments i would suggest you monitor more closely those threads in which posters with a left leaning agenda post. there is nothing insulting in what lindalinda wrote, i took no offense at all. my reply was not insulting either. i disagree with her and she with me. repartee is part of the fun of political discourse. if you are going to reference board policy to me in this thread i would respectfully suggest that you and your moderator colleagues apply the same standards to those on the other side of the politcal spectrum from myself. you clearly do not. i understand that this is a disney board, and my interest in disney brought me here in the first place. however, you provide an area for political discussion as well. this type of discussion can get more heated generally than a discussion of mickey's favorite foods, for example. equally apply your standards, please.

I know one thing are attempting to do. They just had a conference in NY over the 4th of July holiday to promote a treaty to ban the citizens of member nations from owning firearms which, if we signed, would overrule our 2nd amendment.

Sending my good thoughts and respect for the Mods and WM's who are certainly going to have a busy day! ;)

We have no interest at all in your political leanings, only in the way you express them.

No, he didn't. That's an urban legend.

thank you very very much for letting me know. i appreciate very much your kindness in educating me on this matter. my own obviously incomplete understanding of mussolini and train schedules is now complete, thanks to your very friendly and thoughtful post. i am overwhelmed with positive feelings, my heart overflows now with flowers and light and love for my fellow disers who do everything they can to better help me understand the world, politics, and history. thank you very very much. have a beautiful day.
