The only time DH and I have gotten in car wrecks, it has been the other person's fault.

And EVERY SINGLE TIME, they don't have insurance.

DH got hit today. Of course, not only is the guy uninsured, he was driving on a suspended license. AND he tried to run but his car didn't make it.

AH - it turns out he is insured. There's a first time for everything!

If DH is injured it looks like only minor - muscle soreness, etc.

It turns out this guy hit some other lady on his way to hit my DH.

Here's something funny - the attempted hit-and-run driver was driving a Ford Escape.

I had an uninsured driver hit me once. We were headed east and a mobile home was westbound on the same road. The mobile home had a state trooper escort because of how wide it was and all eastbound traffic had to pull onto the shoulder. This, of course, ended up slowing down traffic. The guy behind me wasn't paying any attention and rammed me rather hard. He told me not to call the cops because he claimed I was going to get in trouble. I guess he thought that just because I was younger (22 at the time), I was also a moron. Well, turns out he was the dumbbutt, though, because he started trying to say that I was swerving all over the road and then came to a complete stop. He clearly forgot the state trooper escort. Two of the troopers witnessed the accident and stopped. Turns out his little story to the other people who stopped didn't really fly when the troopers backed up my story. In any case, that was the day I decided to always carry uninsured motorist insurance. I had it then and my car was fixed in no time. Plus, my insurance handled everything.

Hope it all works out for you. :goodvibes

Things are crazy out there. The other day I was in the right turn lane. The guy behind me in the same lane passed me up and...made a right turn. And I wasn't lollygagging.

Wow this driver sounds like an idiot! I can not believe the gall of some people. He should have never been behind that wheel!!

:rotfl2: Ford escape! Good one!

I had a young lady cross the center line and hit me head on, low impact. She cops an attitude. The police officer and I couldn't believe it. Because of that he found something else to give her a ticket for. He said for people like that you go strictly by the book.

I had a woman rear end me at a stop sign. There were three other cars in front of me, all stopped, patiently waiting their turn to go, so it caused a chain reaction of cars rear ending each other. Woman gets out of her car, starts arguing with all the drivers about whose fault it is, and then gets mad when they ask her to wait for the police to arrive to take statements. She then gets in her car and attempts to drive off, but four other people quickly jumped in their cars and blocked her so she couldn't drive off, and left her trapped car until the police showed up.

Police finally arrive and begin to take statements, pictures, and the woman that caused the accident is livid, screaming at the police officers to let her go so she can "pick up her daughter from the airport without being late"! Police officers then proceed to get nitpicky and ticket her for every little thing. :woohoo:

Unbelievable. She did turn out to be insured, but I still carry uninsured/underinsured motorist. The couple of bucks a month added onto my policy has been put to good use. Believe it or not, this is not the most expensive (or stupidest) accident I've been in where another driver was at fault.

Sometimes there is justice. Like my dad used to say. "Son, there are two ways to address a policeman, yes sir and no sir."

I once got rear ended in a construction zone as a result of the flag man throwing up the stop sign. Five of us jammed on our breaks. Unfortunately the guy behind me couldn't stop. While waiting for the tow truck we all got to talking about photography. The cop said it was the best traffic stop he had and told the guy he had to give him a ticket but won't throw the book at him. Asked me if it was ok and I said yes as long as insurance paid.

In my state, it's illegal not to have insurance.

Like that would stop some people....

This guy was high on something. Apparently he had hit a couple of cars before DH and hit a couple more after. He failed the field sobriety test. The cop didn't smell alcohol on him but he was arrested.

Attitude gets you nothing but grief. Several years ago, the car In front of me slowed down (it was rainy) so, naturally, I slowed, too. Unfortunately, the girl in back of me didn't. :confused3. A cop was on the other side of the highway which had a divider--he pulled over, asked if I was ok and said he'd turn around and be back in a jiffy. As we finished the report, I asked where I could get a copy and he said call the number on the report. The girl--who begrudgingly gave her insurance info and was really agitated that I stopped in front of HER, decided to mouth off and said something like "WELL, I WANT one, too!" in a snarky, nasty tone. The cop turned to her and said "Oh, sure, I'll give you that information, too AND I have something special for you---a ticket!!!" Her mouth dropped open. He wished me a safe drive and I drove away leaving them on the side of the road. I was convinced had she exhibited a little humility or contrition, she wouldn't have gotten ticketed.

Three times.

The first was while we were test driving a car and resulted in semi-serious injuries (husband had broken jaw and stiches, I was one big bruise). The car rolled over and I was trapped in by my hair in the sunroof. Firefighters do not make good barbers, btw. That was a mess as our uninsured insurance and the car dealerships insurance had to straighten things out. We ended up getting a lawyer because of the confusion it all caused.

The second time was a hit and run, but a witness followed the person home and called the location into the police. It caused some major damage to my car ($6,000) but I walked away just sore and mad. Accidents are such a headache and for the person to leave...

The third time was a simple rear end. She didn't see me stop until last minute and bang. No injury, minor damage ($800). She actually left also, but left her name and address before leaving.

My father was a cop and when I started driving the one thing he told me was ALWAYS call a cop if you are in an accident.

And yes, if you are polite and pleasant to a cop things will go much better for you. ;)

Update:

Here it is, almost 3 months later. Repair estimates are near $30,000 and we STILL don't have the car back.

Not to rain on your parade, but my car was totaled more than a year ago and I still have nothing. They admitted fault, but refused to pay so here I am a year later, no car and making payments on medical bills. I finally got a lawyer and I am still waiting.

Here's my theory....there is a REASON people don't have insurance....it's often because they've been dropped by their insurance because of prior claims, and they can't afford new insurance. Therefore they "do without." Hence, people without insurance are worse drivers, on average, than those with insurance. I'm more than willing to bet that uninsured/underinsured drivers cause more accidents percentage wise than well insured drivers.

I got rear ended at a stop light, and of course the bimbo who hit me simply wanted me to drive away....she didn't even want to share her name. She got ticketed for driving without insurance. Big surprise...NOT...that she was without insurance.

My MIL got sideswiped last summer, and also found that the guy at fault was without insurance.

So out of the 2 accidents experienced in my family in the last year 100% of them are caused by uninsured drivers.

Yikes!! :scared1: Did you have a new car? will they even cover the cost or just total it and give you the current value?
My car is paid off but when I did have a loan, I had my insurance add the extra portion to pay off my loan..not just the current value.
