Does anyone know if I can bring my umbrella stroller onto the plane with me? Does it count as 1 of my 2 carry-ons? Will it fit in the overhead compartment? I'm trying to fit everything into 2 carry-on bags so as to avoid checking luggage and waiting in an additional line at Southwest. Will that help at all?

Thanks to all who can help me :)

You can check your stroller at the gate and they will have it waiting for you when you get off. We always do that instead of trying to find room in the overhead.

Please excuse my ignorance here - I don't fly too often. What does "check it at the gate" mean? I'd like the stroller to come on the plane with me and not be checked with all the luggage. If I check it, then it wouldn't be a carry-on, would it?

Your stoller will need to be "gate checked" which means that you bring it with you through security and to the gate. The gate agent puts a special tag on it and you leave it at the end of the jetway near the door of the plane right before you board. It is placed in the baggage department, but will be removed first and will be waiting for you in the same spot you left it (but in a different airport :)) when you deplane. That way you can use it to and from the airplane. I do not believe that a gate checked stroller counts as carry-on luggage since it does not take up space in an overhead.
