Umbrella stroller for 4 year old???

I have been looking at some umbrella strollers on ebay and other various web sites for my now 3 year old son which will be 4 when we go to Disney on June 2-9. I noticed that all these strollers state a weight capacity of 35 or 40 pounds. My son weighs 38 right now. Would he be to big for one of these lightweight strollers? He is also 42 inches tall. I would love to have one these umbrella strollers because our other stroller is a big full size that is very difficult to get on and off the buses. Could someone recommend a certain type stroller that would be good for his size.

I bought a Maclaren Triumph last May for my 18mo son. I absolutely love this stroller. The weight limit goes up to 55lbs.. My Daughter who was 7 last june when we made a trip WDW, rode in it a good bit and had no troubles at all. Some things that I love about this stroller are you can recline they back, the hood on top, & it folds up easily. My husband and I are tall people and we don't need to stoop over to push it and we don't kick the wheels when we are walking behind it. Sorry for rattling on but I really love this stroller. Hope you find the right one for your son.

We bought a Maclaren Quest, like the pp I love it. Holds up to 55 pounds. Actually the baby uses it more than DD, I got rid of the whole travel system thing I had when the baby was about 5 months old, he's been in the Mac ever since. Greatest stroller ever. 1 downside though - no snack tray or cup holder for mom, dad or kids. I bought a bag that attaches to the back for me, but I have no idea how the baby will hold onto snacks.

Also, at BRU the Quest was $189 or so. I got it from an Ebay store for $123 (buy it now with free shipping). It was brand new in the box.

I bit the bullet and bought a Maclaren Triumph from recommendations on this site. If you are not a big ebayer, I found the 2006 model at Baby Dealz, just google it, for $119 out the door, no tax, free shipping. They sell for $150 at Babies R Us. My 4 1/2 yr old is about the same size as your child, maybe a little bigger and she fits quite nice in it and it is really easy to push her in it (around the store at least).

I also purchased the universal organizer from Baby and Me Boutique online for $19.99 out the door. This gives you two cupholders, storage area in addition to the basket underneath the stroller.

I didn't want to spend that much, but I figured when we were finished with it, we could sell it on ebay since the Maclarens are a popular stroller and get most of our money back.

Has anyone heard of the maclaren volo? Do you like it?
Looking at several of these models for my ds who will be 4 1/2 this trip.
I am sure he'll want to walk more this time versus our trips in the past, but will still need a stroller at time.
Thinking it might just be cheaper to buy than versus renting and then will have it once my dd gets too big for our regular umbrella stroller.
Any thoughts?

My DD is just taking an umbrella stroller for my DGD who will be 4 1/2 in August. She weighs about 41 lbs and is over 40 inches. My DGD will not usually stay in a stroller, but there's too much waking in DW. I hope it doesn't break on her. My DD doesn't want to spend any money on one since her DD never uses one. I guess if it breaks, we can just rent a stroller there.

Last year our youngest was 3.5 and walked the whole time and did great. I think at that age they are more than capable of walking unless there is some other health issue.

My DD4 is about the same size as your son and I just use the cheap Dora one I got at Sears 2 years ago for $19.99. She is a little big in it, but comfortable. I will use that one until it wears out. It is not worth it for me to get a nicer, more expensive one because she seldom uses a stroller at home and I don't have any more little ones to hand it down to. Although some kids that age are able to walk, we need a stroller for 2 important reasons:
1) DD does not nap anymore at home and won't nap in the hotel. But, she will nap in the stroller in the afternoon when she gets tired which allows us to take in more night time entertainment.
2) DD has asthma and can become winded easily. Some days it would not be possible for her to walk a lot without causing breathing problems.
Another bonus to bringing a cheap-o stroller. I don't stress over someone taking it.

We have the Mac Triumph too! My DS is 4, only 30lbs, but 40in tall. This stroller is perfect! It is light and folds like an umbrella stroller. It has a basket underneath and a canapy. It also reclines! It does hold up to 55lbs too. You can probably find a 2006 model a little cheaper since the 2007 models recently came out. Check your local Babies R Us, or online sites. We have taken this stroller to WDW a bunch of times and used it at Hershey park yesterday. It holds up really well and steers easily. It is great to have a stroller for getting a sleeping kid from the bus stop to your room, or to use at the airport, DtD, or for naps. My DS does not nap at home. While at WDW, he often falls asleep while in the stroller. WDW can do that to you!

Heck I've seen 12 year olds ride in those in the parks...should be fine for your 4 year old

My DD is 3 1/2 and 39 pounds right now and fits great in our Maclaren Quest. She'll be 4 by the time we go and who knows how much the chunky little monkey will weigh then, but I think she'll fit fine in it. If she wants to walk, we'll put our stuff in the stroller.
