with typical summer Florida pop up showers, what’s the best? Umbrella and carry a cardigan in case it cools off? Umbrella and rain jacket with a hood? Or, will they be sweltering hot? What do Floridians do? I do not want to carry around a giant backpack of gear.

I always use a poncho. Or, if you want to be really cute and fancy-- Charles River makes these really adorable pack-n-go rain jackets that are really light and conveniently turn into a little pouch when you're not using them.

Trust me, if it "cools off' you will be grateful for it and not cold. We hate ponchos and do not care if we get wet. It is so hot you dry really fast. Plus we don't melt.

A jacket would be too much. You will swelter in a jacket. The real feel of the temps most of the time in Florida are in the 100's. A poncho would be good.

Also, a jacket might not cover your shorts. When it rains, I want my shorts dry, not just my shirt.

The only reason you'd need a cardigan is if you want it for indoor restaurants etc where the airs on, otherwise you will never want a cardigan outside at Disney in the summer.

Small pack- disposable poncho( which can be put in a ziplock when it stops, and dry later in your room ) and pocket size(smallest) umbrella.

I have been here in the "sweltering" heat for 10 days... I really dislike plastic ponchos since they make me sweaty and I never know how to properly store them after... I am loving my light rainjacket that can be bunched into a little pouch (https://www.mountainwarehouse.com/us/pakka-womens-waterproof-jacket-p2628.aspx/bright pink/) Best purchase for a few dollars more then a disposable Mickey poncho! My kids both have one and they have been holding up!

Oh yes... Ten days in and we have yet to use our cardigans! Our very light weight jackets are more then enough on the cold buses and restaurants!

Florida resident here. For summer afternoon rain storms in the parks we carry the small pocket size ponchos which can be purchased for around $1.00 in walmart in the camping section. We also put a lot of effort into our clothing choices in the summer. Breathable quick dying clothing is a must. This helps with the heat and if you get caught in the rain these clothes will dry quickly. I never carry a jacket or cardigan in the summer months. I live in my crocs flip flops in the summer months. I like these for park touring because I find them comfortable and supportive plus it's no big deal if they get wet. However, if supportive flip flops are not for you I suggest bringing extra shoes and socks to store in a locker. Nothing is worse then walking around in wet shoes and socks in my opinion. Also, know that with the Florida humidity it will take a while, as in several days, for shoes to dry out here and the smell is not pretty.
