"Um, Robin... You have an emergency phone call"

I was in a very important meeting today at work.. our admin come in and gets me saying there is an important phone call from my sisters school (she is 16). My mother permitted Jennifer to take her three foot long iguana to school today... Jen went to the bathroom and the lizard got out of her backpack and caused a great disruption in her class. The principle was less than amused and gave me 15 minutes to come pick up the lizard and Jennifer.... red faced I left and got the two of them and took them to my place. On the way back to work I called my mother (who is on her way to El Paso to see my aunt) I asked why in the world she world allow Jennifer to take a lizard to school... her comment "I don't see what the big deal is, she had it in her backpack! You should be glad I didn't let her get a snake"!.... then she started yelling at me.


Deep breath... Eventually logic will have to set in and she will call back and apologize. *maybe*

That is really weird. First off why would she want to bring a 3 foot lizard to school with her anyways? And at 16 shouldn't she be old enough to realize that pets are not allowed at school? Sorry this disrupted your day. I would be PO at both mom and sister!

ugh! I hate that "you've got an emergency phone call"! - makes my heart sink.
No doubt in my mind that Sis should not take any pet (especially THAT kind of pet!) to school! It sounds like you shouldn't hold your breath on getting an admission of guilt on your Mom's behalf. (Actually, I agree, 16 is old enough to know NOT to bring a pet to school!)

You know what?? This would be one of those moments where I wish I would have had a video camera and taped it. You know leaving work, going to the school to pick us sis (making sure to get the lizard in the shot) and then archiving for the day your sis has a 16yodd...lol.

BTW I tell my kids I am going to start doing this so I could show their kids what they have done. (gets them to stop) LOL

Oh my! I'm glad the emergency phone call wasn't anything more serious, but I don't blame you for being upset with your mom and your sister. I had a 6-inch gecko when I was your sister's age, and I'd have never tried to take him to school because he was such a booger. He'd have gone crazy at school.

This reminds me of a story my friend told me.....

Last week, she and her class (she is a teacher) were at Publix on a field trip. Her DH called the school and had the secretary call her at Publix. She thought she heard her name being paged, but really wasn't sure. The store manager came up to her and told her that there was a message that she had to contact her DH right away. It sounded like it was an emergency, so she started to get nervous thinking that something must be wrong with their youngest DD. She called her husband (she is now shaking) and asks him what's wrong. His response (you guys are going to love this one!!!!), " Oh, I just wanted to let you know that they didn't have the FUR REAL FRIENDS CAT at KBToys". Let's just say that she wasn't happy!

How relieved you must have been to learn that the "important" call was about a lizard and not about a serious accident or illness of your sister.

I'll bet she has learned the "no pets in school" lesson now. Sorry your day was disrupted. It would have scared me to death to be pulled out of a meeting for a call like that.

I'm sorry, but I just had to laugh at the mental image of the chaos that lizard must have caused!!

I'm sorry they got you out of work, but thankfully it wasn't anything more serious.
