So my daycare, that I pay a ton of money for, sent home a fundraiser today. Say what?! Apparently, in addition to paying them a large chunk of money each week, they are hoping I will peddle some additional crap to raise money for iPads for each classroom. Since my 4 month old won't be doing any selling, I think they thought I might do it. WRONG. Isn't that ridiculous?

Yes, I think that is ridiculous! Way back when, DD had fundraisers sent home from her daycare too. It was a large, for profit organization, we already paid quite a bit weekly and I thought it was really obnoxious and unnecessary.
We never participated because it was always overpriced wrapping paper and stuff.

No.

They can just raise the tuition/fees and cover them that way. You don't have to participate.

There were fundraisers when my kids were in preschool (private), we have fundraisers for travel and club soccer, fundraisers for dance - plus all of the school ones (3 schools), high school soccer, high school and middle school choirs - welcome to one if the downsides of parenthood!

And so it begins....

Just think, you have another 18yrs of this stuff. :rotfl:

So true, so true! :lmao:

Get used to it, we get bombarded with fundraisers from our school. :rotfl2:

It never seems to end.

From the school (at least twice a year), from the band (all kids were in marching band), from German club, from the drama society, from scouts, from church, and on and on. I decided early on which (if any) fundraisers we would peddle to the grandparents/other relatives and passed on all others. I was totally in support when the elementary school went to the "no fundraiser fundraiser" . Basically, "Please give us some extra money". That way I knew that 100% of what I gave went back to the school (unlike typical fundraisers where they only get a low percentage of the take).

Have fun. Welcome to the world of parenting.

Ipads for a day care? I am all for technology, but they do not need them in order to do their jobs.

So that would be a H to the E to the double LL NO!

And I agree with other parents, it has only begun.

Yes I think it's ridiculous. I NEVER participate in any fundraisers. I don't help sell or buy from any of them. Sorry but I am not going to waste my time, effort and money. The only thing I have ever bought was school t-shirts and that is it. I chuck all fundraiser stuff directly into the garbage when my kids bring it home.

I hate school fundraisers. They also get filed in the garbage at my house. And I love disappointing my kid when they find out they will not get any of the crappy prizes(for selling) the school spent two hours hyping up that day. :headache:

I'd much rather just make a donation to the PTA fund than do fundraisers. Apparently, a lot of people at my kids' school felt this way as they established a fund solely for this purpose. When the fundraiser materials come home, they go right into the recycle bin. ::yes::

Yep. I just pay the $75... Keep your candy bars to yourself school.

It depends on the daycare. Our older dd went to a daycare that was very affordable. All the extras, like Gymbus, computers, etc were ala carte. So I actually didn't mind fundraisers, and would contribute.

However, my sister's son goes to a pre-Harvard daycare, as I jokingly refer to it. She pays a lot more than I did. So in her case, I'd be cheesed off, at a fundraiser.

Amen! My daughter is a cheerleader and it's unbelievable how much fundraising they do. I can't sell the magazines and wrapping paper so I end up buying it out. Just this week I wrote a check for $150. to cover her portion of that sale. :( I had much rather have them work for the money.

I only do the mandatory ones, and if there is a prize involved in the other ones, it's cheaper to buy them the prize! :rotfl2:

As for fundraisers for daycare, I can't ever remember doing it. :scratchin I wouldn't want to have to do that either.

I agree with this- iPads for daycare? Kids, especially those of preschool age need to play not stare at screens.

BTDT... as someone posted - this is only the beginning. Karate, youth soccer, scouts, baseball, wrestling, day care, German Club, and regular school - DS would have 2-3 fundraisers going at any given time. Just wait until your little one is old enough to learn that there are "prizes" :lmao: for different levels of sales brought in. Fun, fun, fun. :rolleyes1

I participate in the ones for stuff we actually want or would buy anyways, the others I discard. Although fundraising does have it's place. Where I live the government does not give money for playgrounds and our kids' school had an old one that couldn't even be repaired anymore. Over the last 3 years we worked really hard with a walkathon, raffles, spring fair etc. and raised the over $100,000.00 we needed and this summer they got a brand new playground. That was well worth the time and effort.
