Um...do you have anything besides pumpkin pie?

I would love this recipe if you wouldn't mind sharing it. You can PM it to me if you want.

Thanks.

I'm more than happy to share it with you. My copy of this recipe is so old that is is a mimeographed copy- and I can hardly read it any more! This will be good for me too because I can't reprint it myself!

FYI- I usually DOUBLE the topping- it's my favorite part!

Fish Market Apple Pie

Crust:
1 3/4 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 cup butter
1/4 cup water

Combine first 4 ingredients in bowl. Cut in butter with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add water, gather dough into a ball. Roll out into a lightly floured surface to 12". Fit into a 10"pie plate. (Must be a 10" plate) Turn under overhanging pastry and stand up edges. Refrigerate until ready to fill.

Filling:

1 egg
1 1/2 cup sour cream
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup flour
2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
2 1/2 lbs. MacIntosh Apples- pared, quartered, cored and sliced thin.

To prepare filling:
Beat egg slightly in large bowl. Stir in sour cream, sugar, flour, vanilla and salt until mixture is smooth. Add apples stirring gently just to coat. Spoon into pie shell. Bake at 450 for 10 minutes. Lower the oven to 350. Bake 35 minutes longer. While pie bakes, prepare topping.

Topping:

1 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup flour
1/3 cup of sugar
1/3 cup light brown sugar
1 Tbsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt

Mix all ingredients together. Remove pie from the oven. Sprinkle topping over the filling. Return the pie back to the oven for another 15 minutes. Cool pie on wire rack. Then refrigerate until you're ready to eat.

This is a very rich pie. I hope you enjoy it every bit as much as our family does! If you do make it, I would love to know how you all liked it!

Well, If I were planning a more traditional type of Thanksgiving, then I would probably consider the more 'traditional' types of desserts.

Old fashioned all American Apple Pie.
and Carrot Cake

come to mind.

Thank goodness we don't have those huge family dinners any more. It got to a point where I started baking 3 days in advance....

Pumpkin pie, pecan pie, several kinds of tarts, red velvet cake, homemade gingerbread men, gingerbread, chocolate cake....we had to have a separate table for desserts!

Of course "family"...immediate only....could be up to 30 people!

I make a pumpkin crunch, fruits, and we do have pumpkin pie.
This year, I am also going to make Jello Thanksgiving Fruit Whip.

Here's an apple recipe we make at Thanksgiving. It's super yummy!

Baked Apples

12 Red Delicious or baking apples (I like Granny Smith)
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
3/4 cup margarine or butter (I prefer butter)
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. ground cinnamon

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Peel upper half of each apple. Core to within 1/2 inch of bottom. Place apples in ungreased baking dish. Add 1 scant tablespoon brown sugar, 1 teaspoon margarine or butter, a pinch of nutmeg and a pinch of cinnamon in the center of each apple. Sprinkle remaining spices over apples. Pour 1/4 inch water into baking dish. Bake 30-40 mnutes, basting occasionally. To test for doneness, pierce with fork; they should be tender.

We usually have pumpkin pie, apple pie and pecan pie at my MIL's.

I'm interested in some of the recipes mentioned. Those of you who have shared, thank you. Those of you who named something new, could you share recipes, too? For example, I'm interested in the pumpkin log and the chocolate bourbon thing. Mmmm. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

No pumpkin pie for us although I made a pumpkin cake one year that was good.

Pecan pie is a must have but I think we will do pecan bars this year and apple cake.

We always have sweet potato pie, custard pie, pecan pie and sweet potato casserole. I think I'm going to have to make some ooey gooey cake by paula this year. I love Paula's recipe, she's not into light dishes, and she doesn't skimp on what every recipe should have...butter or mayo or bacon. :teeth:

Pecan pie and some kind of cake for those who don't care for pie. And also ice cream if anyone wants their dessert ala mode.

Well, I can help with the pumpkin log. It's yummy and not difficult.

PUMPKIN ROLL

Batter:
3 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
2/3 can canned pumpkin
3/4 cup flour 1 tsp baking soda

1/2 to 1 cup walnuts (Optional)

Filling:
8 oz. cream cheese
2 tsp butter
1 cup powdered sugar

Grease a sided cookie sheet (mine is 12" x 18"), line with waxed paper. Pour batter into sheet and level. Chop nuts, sprinkle on top of batter and lightly pat. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Cool for 3-5 minutes. Cover a dishcloth (not a terry one) with powdered sugar and turn dough out onto cloth. Remove paper. Use the towel to roll the dough (from long side) and cool for 30 minutes in refrigerator. Unwrap dough and spread with the filling. Roll up again without the towel. Roll lightly in foil and refrigerate 24 hours. Cut roll into slices.

Lisa- is that a large can of pumpkin?

Yes. I've just driven myself nuts searching my pantry because I thought I still had a can so I could tell you how many ounces but I can't find it. It's definitely the large can though.

One good source for recipes is a website called allrecipes.com. They have so many for anything and everything you could think of. And they are all tested and rated by regular folks like myself. I got my carrot cake recipe off of there and all of DH's co-workers have said it's the best they've ever had.

I think I'll be making that along with the bread pudding recipe I got from WDW's Contemporary resort, which everyone also loves. I'll buy a pumpkin cheesecake and then make two or three other recipes from this thread.

So many wonderful ideas and choices! It's great!!
