Day 2 – Friday, June 6th Continued

Before I go on, I remembered something that I forgot to post. During dinner, we had ordered Pirate Punches for the kids. These come with either a light-up Captain Hook, or a Tinkerbell. We asked for one of each. Unfortunately, the waitress came back with 2 Tinks and explained that she was looking for a Captain Hook. Later, she came back and explained that she could not find one, but brought Peter a glowcube as a bonus! That put a smile on his face for sure! It’s little stuff like that that makes a difference.
:goodvibes

Ok, let’s see where did I leave off? Oh yes, ashes are pixie dust. I flipped out my DDE card, and even ended up tipping the waitress a little bit more since she did such a great job, and we had such a great time. It was time to head to the busses with the rest of the masses. As we were walking along, I realize that I had lost both Crashdad and Jack, and I knew not where? Did they 1-step-back-and-3-to-the-left me? If so, why???

I decided to try the cell phone. No dice. Finally, I raised Jack and he informed me that Crashdad had lost something. If you read, my previous trip report, you may recall that he lost his beloved Tilley hat on our last trip. He immediately replaced said hat when we returned home, and it’s predecessor came on this trip. He lost it. Again. Most fortuitously, he noticed that it was still sitting on the bark pench where he must have left it, BEFORE DINNER!! We are amazed that it was still there. Maybe UKers understand the value of a Tilley?? At any rate, he had his hat back and that was all that mattered. We gimped our way, on tired feet, to the front of the park to the bus depot.

I’d love to say that we walked up and got right on a bus and were off to the Pop. But. I. Can’t.

Instead we did find a line, which wasn’t that big of a deal. However, there was one man in the line that wasn’t exactly modeling mature behavior, or attitude, to his children. There were several folks on ECV’s in this line and there weren’t going to be enough seats on this bus for everyone. One lady was having particular trouble getting her ECV parked correctly on the lift and it was the last straw for this man in the line. He was making strange whiney noises and sighing. No, he was not metally impaired, he was just being a jerk. It wasn’t necessary, or warranted, and did nothing to make the situation better. I completely “get” that there are folks that need ECV’s while in Disneyworld, but not necessarily in everyday life. Most of us do not have to walk miles upon miles on a daily basis, like we do when we are running around Walt’s 47 (or whatever it really is now) square miles. So, I am sure that I wouldn’t suddenly be able to park one of them on a dime either, and those lifts leave little margin of error. So, we sat patiently and watched some folks struggle, and one idiot act like a jerk. There always has to be one, I suppose, in every crowd.

Still, even El-Jerko, couldn’t ruin the happy buzz that was our first, and most excellent, night of our trip!! Soon, we were seated on the bus and on our way back to a good night’s rest and the rest of our adventure! We got everyone ran through the shower and off to sweet dreams.

Day 3 – Saturday, June 7th

We woke up whenever-ish gathered the bags and checked out of the Pop Century. Following the most excellent instructions from my friend YAK, we headed to the Walmart for food and stuff. Jack shot this pic of Belle and Peter because he thought that it was funny that they matched the product display.
walmart.jpg

I think Belle was trying to channel her inner Vanna ;-)

For some strange reason, we could not come back the same way that we came, so we/I improvised a different route back that worked just fine. Soon, we were turning into the Boardwalk!
boardwlksignsmall.jpg

We pulled up to the guard shack and got our first “Welcome Home” and our parking permit. Onward to the valet lane, for another “Welcome Home” as the valet unloaded our car. He gave us a claim ticket for the car and the bags, I handed him the keys, and we headed inside to check-in. DVC members get free valet parking, so that was nice. Crashdad was sure to tip the valet.

You betcha, we got yet another “Welcome Home” from the guy at the check-in desk. I had everyone go sit down while I headed over to the Concierge to have the kids’ regular park hopper tickets added to the their new Keys to the Kingdom cards.
brdwlklob1small.jpg

Our room wasn’t ready yet (which we knew it probably wouldn’t) so we decided to walk over to Epcot through the International Gateway (IG). Once we were through the gates, we headed left over the IG bridge toward France and then the Morocco Pavilion. We ordered a couple of schwarma platters, a falafel wrap, and some waters and then sat in the shade outside to enjoy the yummy goodness. This IS my favorite counter service in “the World.” I think that I could live on the Tangerine Couscous.

Lunch in our stomachs, we decided to take the boat back to the Boardwalk because the check-in guy had said that it might be ready early. When we got there it wasn’t ready, though. There was a Cast Member in the lobby playing with the kids. Belle and Peter stopped to play in the cool AC for a while:
brdwlklob5small.jpg

Finally, we gave up hope of the room being ready, so we decided to head to the Magic Kingdom (MK) for a possible dinner at the Liberty Tree Tavern later. No sooner had we made it to the bus depot, than I realized that we did not have the backpack. Fortuantely, the Cast Member that was playing with Peter and Belle was holding it for us. Yet another, almost lost item. It would become a theme. Trust me on this.

Magic Kingdom ended up being a bad idea. It was crazy crowded, as we managed to arrive at about 2:30.
Exhibit A:
mkcastle1small.jpg

The next hour or so is a blur of people, and HEAT! But I did find a treasure, so to speak. I found a shop in Frontierland that had a corner with the coldest vent in all of the MK. I made a note to forward this information to a few that I knew would appreciate the info: it’s in the dump shop, over in the far corner by the Pal Mickey display. I stood there and played with Mickey for a few minutes. Then we picked a window space and watched the 3:00 parade (which is still at 3:00 dontchaknow?). As soon as the parade was over, we decided to head over to Aloha Isle for a Dolewhip. Yummo! Oh rats, the line was a brazillion miles long. Suddenly, Peter asks “Mom can we check to see if the room is ready now?” You know that the MK is too crowded when even the kiddos don’t want to be there. So, I pulled out the cell phone and called, and yes it was ready now. YAY us!

We headed out of Magic Kingdom as fast as we could, and bid farewell to the idea of dinner at Liberty Tree. No worries, I had planned for this possibility and had an ADR elsewhere just in case. We boarded the bus back to the Boardwalk and proceeded, as fast as our legs would take us, to room 5041:

brdwlkrm6small.jpg

Of course, we HAD to go check out the Boardwalk view from our balcony:

brdview7small.jpg

brdview4small.jpg

brdview6small.jpg

We were very pleased! I had requested “upper floor,” and we actually got it. Love that Boardwalk view!! I have more pics of the Boardwalk (morning and evening shots) to post later. I have picked my favorite 6 to be placed into a collage frame for our hall. We called the bellman to bring up our bags and groceries. As we put all of the items away, I noticed that the previous occupants had left a bottle of wine in the fridge. So, now we had 2 bottles of wine. I threw a load of dirty clothes in the washer and, it was time to leave to catch the Friendship Boat to the Beach Club for our dinner ADR at Cape May. Something was wrong with their buzzer system at the podium, but we still were seated fairly quickly. We all agreed that it was a good meal. This is a buffet, so there was something for everyone. Here is a shot of their clam chowder (lots of clams) and some salads:
capemysmall.jpg

Again, we used the DDE card when it came time to pay the bill.

With out stomachs full, we decided to walk back around Crescent Lake to the Boardwalk. We stopped to watch one of the Boardwalk street performers. This one was a juggler. He was teetering on a board that was atop a plastic tube, atop of some pvc shelving like you might use in a garage or storage closet. He had a little girl as his “assistant” to throw juggling pins to him. Only the sweet little girl could only throw them backward. She kept wanting to throw them overhand, but he wouldn’t let he because she would have taken his head off. So after she threw a couple backwards using the underhand method. He signaled for her to turn around backwards and throw them to her that way. YAY, it worked. There were many giggles and much applause for them both!

Next it was back to the room to change into our swim suits to go conquer the Clown Pool and the Keester Coaster, AKA Pennywise *fake shudder*

Clowns do not bother me. So eventually, I did try out that slide. It was fun! Word to the wise, unless you like getting almost flipped completely over on a water slide, stay sitting up. Don’t lie flat, or you build up enough speed to nearly flip you over. Also, there is a current where it dumps you out. So, if your small kiddos are not strong swimmers make sure that you have life vests on them. FYI DVC members can borrow these from the Community Hall for the duration of their trip for no charge. Peter and Belle wanted no part of the slide… yet. I am sure that will change one of these days. Of course, Jack adored it. He made some friends in the pool and off they went, over and over again. Jack is the kind of guy that can make friends anywhere and always does. He comes by that honestly.

Having conquered Pennywise and lived to tell the tale, we headed back to the room to clean up and head to bed. As we walked toward the building, we could hear the fireworks from Epcot going off. We knew that we had a big day ahead of us tomorrow. The pullout bed in the living room of the 1BR villa was queen sized. Jack, Belle, and Peter fit in it easily. With the kids all tucked into bed, Crashdad and I headed into the master bedroom, I set a wake-up call… and collapsed into our comfy king-sized bed! As I laid there, I could feel the tension just drain from my body and it felt like I was lying on a cloud somewhere in the general vicinity of Heaven. Life is indeed good!

Up Next: Jedi, Sith, Heat – OH MY! Will we ever ride anything?

Had to join as your dates coincided with ours! We were there sweating from even our eyeballs from the 7th until the 14th!

I love your writing -- I laughed several times as I was reading!

Your kids are precious!

What a great table for Illuminations! :thumbsup2

Ah! An update!

What a fantastic view from your villa!!! LOVELY. And you make Cape May look good - was it? I need dining reviews along with trip reports dontchaknow.

Sorry about the heat. It was unbearably hot here in Georgia that week, too. Unseasonably hot. Like, AFRICA hot.

Mom! when are we going to ride sumpin?....maybe ToT :woohoo: I ate some cold meets and salad at Rose and Crown....We never did visit the Boardwalk since there wasnt anything to ride ...it looks much betteran comfy than when we were there for the free dining last Sept. at AS Music

Steph, great update. Sounds like a good day.

Great view, did you wave across the lake to a certain friend?

We were in that line with you for the Pop bus after Illuminations!! Infact, we watched Illuminations right down the way in Canada. I felt so sorry for that lady. I couldn't watch! All the pressure of trying to park that huge thing and all those people watching you.
Your room at Boardwalk is beautiful. I love that theming. The view isn't too bad, either. :goodvibes

So, I was sitting at lunch today and was thinking about my trip report. I suddenly realized that I lied about something.

I was pondering my remark about not dressing like a super model and suddenly, I had a flashback to 1986.

Madonna was True Blue and very "into" wearing bustiers as outerwear.

Exhibit A:
Madonna1.jpg

I was getting married and had went into the Bride's dressing room to change. I wore a full length gown with all of the undergarments and hoops to go with it. I was probably a meringue, but that was the fashion those days.

Anyway, my mother (that lived out of town) had not seen my gown yet. So, I got the evil idea to don the bustier, and slip... and nothing else.

So, I emerged from the room and looked straight at my mother with my arms all aflourish and said, "Surprise, it's a Madonna themed wedding. Dontcha just love it?!!" Then I spun around a couple of times just for the effect.

She was stunned into silence.
:lmao: :lmao:

I let her squirm for a few more seconds and then told her that this was just the underwear for the dress.

Her color came back around... after an hour or so.
:lmao:

Seriously, my mom really is that gullible. Ask me sometime about the dime-sniffing goats at the Zoo someday.

At any rate, that is my very best personally inappropriately dressed story. Still, the only persons subjected to it were family.

Thanks! Who knew that you could wet form your eyeballs!! Never too old to learn something ;-)

Thanks, I just went over and check out your report. I haven't made it to Sunday yet, but I;ll get there soon.

Great start and what a great view of Illuminations you had :goodvibes

Thanks!

Ah! An update!

Sorry about the heat. It was unbearably hot here in Georgia that week, too. Unseasonably hot. Like, AFRICA hot.

I can't wait to get my pics framed and hanging in the hall! I can just walk by and look at them and have a happy sigh.

Cape May was good. I had the stuff in the picture, the red potato salad was yummy. I tried a clam or mussel to two, but I am addicted to the mussels at Flying Fish, so these did not compete. I know that I had the prime rib, it was good. They have a short table so the kids can self-serve if they want, but they can eat from any of the offerings. They had a salad bar, 2 dessert bars, a seafood type bar with steamed bivalves and salmon, prime rib, barbeque ribs, some sort of potatoes, bread, veggies... etc.

As for the heat, wow! We did the right thing though for the rest of the trip, it was just that this day was all mucked up by the reosrt change. We went out early, left for a break and came back for the wonderful evenings the rest of the trip!! Do it people, you won't regret it! Broiling in the afternoon sun at any theme park is grueling.

Mom! when are we going to ride sumpin?....maybe ToT :woohoo: I ate some cold meets and salad at Rose and Crown....We never did visit the Boardwalk since there wasnt anything to ride ...it looks much betteran comfy than when we were there for the free dining last Sept. at AS Music

I didn't see any cold selections there? Were they supposed to be cold? Oh go stay at the Boardwalk and ride that Keester Coaster. Yes, it was much more comfy than Pop. I like Pop, but I love Boardwalk.

Steph, great update. Sounds like a good day.

Great view, did you wave across the lake to a certain friend?

I knew there was a reason that I kept looking over there!

We were in that line with you for the Pop bus after Illuminations!! Infact, we watched Illuminations right down the way in Canada. I felt so sorry for that lady. I couldn't watch! All the pressure of trying to park that huge thing and all those people watching you.

Oh wow, could you hear that guy!? He was right in front of us, so we couldn't miss him.

Only the lucky ones get tables like that.

I can set it up for my sister and her family, and it has yet to happen for us. I have two more tries this year.

The villa looks just wonderful. Just like your family.

Oh keep trying, I think it's worth it. Now I am worried to try again, lest we get set inside instead!!

Hi Mom , we had the lunch menu at Rose and Crown an you had the Dinner.

See, I do, Master Yoda.

Jedi, Sith, Heat – OH MY!

Day 3 – Sunday, June 8th

Stitch and Goofy called to wake us up. So we roused the troops and force-fed them some breakfast cereal. Next it was time for Peter and Belle to transform into Luke and Leia. If you look back at the last installment, you may have noticed a UPSP box sitting on the dining table in one of the room pics. That box was waiting for us when we got there and was sent by our fantastically talented friend, GaKitty!

Aren’t these beautimous!?
lukeleia1small.jpg

lukeleia2small.jpg
leaidres.jpg

Oh no, the dark side!! I mean, Darth Brotherous!
lukeleia3small.jpg

Thanks again, GaKitty! You rock!
Now, Belle’s braids were supposed to be authentic like the movies, but I realized that I forgot to pack the bobby pins. I was forced to improvise. You will see them better, later. At any rate, it was time to leave and find a shuttle, I mean boat, to Disney Hollywood Studios.

There wasn’t a Friendship boat at the moment, so we decided to walk to DHS. The closer we came, the clearer we could hear the Star Wars theme song! Finally, we made it to the turnstiles:
starwarsgate.jpg

And, Jack shot this video footage. He shot all the video in this trip report. It’s just a few minutes of the schtick:

The Stormtroopers decided to go ahead and let us pass by them, and soon we were on our way up the Blvd. Perched atop one of the buildings, was a Clone Trooper. As we passed by he asked, “Is anyone aware that I am not wearing pants?” Of course, I nearly got whiplash from that comment. He then added, “Just checking to see if you were paying attention.”

We turned and headed toward 50’s Prime Time for rope drop. It was a brazillion degrees!! They were separating the crowd from those waiting for the rope drop, to those waiting for Fastpasses to get the celebrity autographs. We elected not to try for autographs. Eventually, they did lower the rope after the castmembers tried to remind everyone not to trample small children in their quest. Soon we were in front of the ropes for the Jedi Training Academy. It would be a 30-min wait before the first session of the Academy would begin. They already had the MC hosts out there telling corny jokes and whatnot. Lots of people commented on our little Luke and Leia.

Eventually, the Jedi Master and some Padawans came out:
Jedi1small.jpg

He comes out and does an exhibition of his light saber skills, then he “reaches out through the Force,” to pick kids from the crowd to become Padawan Learners. I encouraged Luke and Leia to jump and cheer. Belle put those old cheerleader skills to work for her and she was chosen! Yay, thanks again GaKitty! The kids are given robes and light sabers to borrow for the training.
The smile says it all!! Made sweating from our eyeballs all worth it!
leia1small.jpg

The improvised braids. I am bad Momma for forgetting those bobby pins!!!

“This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster; an elegant weapon for a more civilized age.”
– Obi Wan Kenobi, Star Wars IV: A New Hope

jedi4small.jpg

She is soooo girly! Look at her foot all turned back so sweetly. But still, you do not want to get into “aggressive negotiations” with her, just ask Peter!!

OH NO the Sith!
jedi2small.jpg

jedi3small.jpg

Leia battles Darth Maul!
leia4small.jpg

The Padawans having fought victoriously against the Sith, and rejecting the Dark Side, are commended by Master Yoda. His voice lilts through the air coming from different directions with each phrase. The Jedi Master reminds them that a Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack. Then Master Yoda's parting words, of course, “the Force will be with you… always.”

During our earlier wait, I cut Jack loose and let him go ride Star Tours while we waited. He rejoined us and shot this video, but he missed the part with our Leia.

You can hear Yoda at the end:

Our Leia/Belle received a Star Wars convention collectible vehicle and a diploma. Which I will probably frame for her. It is all tied up with a Jedi green ribbon. I must tell you all that Peter was not upset that he wasn’t chosen to be a Padawan. He was just really excited that his sister was chosen. I was so proud of him for that!!

We decided that it was time to ride Star Tours! While we were standing in the queue, we were all still discussing Belle’s battle with Darth Maul. Peter (really channeling his inner Hook) looked up at me and said, “That Darth Maul is just a bad man, that really needs a Mommy.” Jack informed us that he found a hidden Mickey on the conveyor belt above our heads and he tried to point it out. We never saw what he was talking about. Any ideas?

Soon we had departed for Endor in our shuttle and helped the Rebellion blow up the Death Star once again! We walked through the dump shop and purchased Peter’s long-awaited Ewok. Jack bought a skull and crossbones Stormtrooper t-shirt, and Dad bought some playing cards to add to his collection. We headed toward the ABC commissary, but stopped at a little shop that I had never noticed, and bought a couple of mocha slushies. Next we headed to find a good parade spot and some bathrooms. We ended up sitting on the concrete barriers along where the busts of the stars are. This ended up being a great spot! Here are some pics:

It’s true that kids in costumes get serious parade interaction!

Mom, she’s freakin’ me out!

And a little bit of parade video:

The parade over, it was time for the kids to hit yet another attraction that they missed on our last trip, Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular. We were just in time to walk in and get good seats! One of these days, I must get some pictures of this show. I always forget to take any.

The kids loved it, as we knew they would. I made them watch Raider’s of the Lost Ark, so that they would understand the scenes in the show. It helped them to grasp the context of the show. Our hero, Indy, saved the day and soon it was time to split up. I needed to go take the rental car over to the Dolphin resort, and the kids needed to go see Little Mermaid (another first for them).

I’ll let Crash tell his side of the story later.

Anyway, I took the Friendship boat back to the Swan, and then walked over to the Boardwalk (it’s faster that way, but if ou don’t want to walk, you can stay on the boat and it will take you to the Boardwalk). I had to go back to the room to get the valet claim for the car, besides I wanted a chance to change into a fresh shirt anyway. The valet drove the car up, I gave him a tip, and I headed across the street to the Hess station to fill-up the tank. It think it was about $13. I exited the station made two rights and arrived at the Dolphin. I drove the car up to the Valet, and got a return slip. It was easypeasy!! I walked through the Dolphin to the boat dock and headed back to DHS to be reunited with the troops.

Up next Crashdad’s side of the story.

Great installment! I love their costumes, so cute! Glad she got chosen! And I love your son's comment on Darth Maul needing a Mom. That is just too stinkin' cute!

Allyson

Those costumes are great! And how cool that she got chosen! And what a good brother for not minding. :goodvibes . Sounds like a mgaical day for all of you.

-Becca-

Very Cool Steph!!!

I'm glad you made it to Walmart! Sorry about the return trip.

My new very favorite Orlando navigation device is a Garmin! Don't leave Disney property without one! ;)

Love, love, love the Star Wars costumes. For a moment I thought you had those curtains at your own home - whew! :thumbsup2 The kids look great!

And love, love, love all the pictures.

Keep it coming'

The kids look great in their Star Wars costumes! Belle's is my favorite Leia costume!

How cool that Belle got chosen for the Jedi Training Academy!!!

Awesome pics of the parade!
