Day 2 Friday, June 6th Continued
Before I go on, I remembered something that I forgot to post. During dinner, we had ordered Pirate Punches for the kids. These come with either a light-up Captain Hook, or a Tinkerbell. We asked for one of each. Unfortunately, the waitress came back with 2 Tinks and explained that she was looking for a Captain Hook. Later, she came back and explained that she could not find one, but brought Peter a glowcube as a bonus! That put a smile on his face for sure! Its little stuff like that that makes a difference.
Ok, lets see where did I leave off? Oh yes, ashes are pixie dust. I flipped out my DDE card, and even ended up tipping the waitress a little bit more since she did such a great job, and we had such a great time. It was time to head to the busses with the rest of the masses. As we were walking along, I realize that I had lost both Crashdad and Jack, and I knew not where? Did they 1-step-back-and-3-to-the-left me? If so, why???
I decided to try the cell phone. No dice. Finally, I raised Jack and he informed me that Crashdad had lost something. If you read, my previous trip report, you may recall that he lost his beloved Tilley hat on our last trip. He immediately replaced said hat when we returned home, and its predecessor came on this trip. He lost it. Again. Most fortuitously, he noticed that it was still sitting on the bark pench where he must have left it, BEFORE DINNER!! We are amazed that it was still there. Maybe UKers understand the value of a Tilley?? At any rate, he had his hat back and that was all that mattered. We gimped our way, on tired feet, to the front of the park to the bus depot.
Id love to say that we walked up and got right on a bus and were off to the Pop. But. I. Cant.
Instead we did find a line, which wasnt that big of a deal. However, there was one man in the line that wasnt exactly modeling mature behavior, or attitude, to his children. There were several folks on
ECVs in this line and there werent going to be enough seats on this bus for everyone. One lady was having particular trouble getting her ECV parked correctly on the lift and it was the last straw for this man in the line. He was making strange whiney noises and sighing. No, he was not metally impaired, he was just being a jerk. It wasnt necessary, or warranted, and did nothing to make the situation better. I completely get that there are folks that need ECVs while in Disneyworld, but not necessarily in everyday life. Most of us do not have to walk miles upon miles on a daily basis, like we do when we are running around Walts 47 (or whatever it really is now) square miles. So, I am sure that I wouldnt suddenly be able to park one of them on a dime either, and those lifts leave little margin of error. So, we sat patiently and watched some folks struggle, and one idiot act like a jerk. There always has to be one, I suppose, in every crowd.
Still, even El-Jerko, couldnt ruin the happy buzz that was our first, and most excellent, night of our trip!! Soon, we were seated on the bus and on our way back to a good nights rest and the rest of our adventure! We got everyone ran through the shower and off to sweet dreams.
Day 3 Saturday, June 7th
We woke up whenever-ish gathered the bags and checked out of the Pop Century. Following the most excellent instructions from my friend YAK, we headed to the
Walmart for food and stuff. Jack shot this pic of Belle and Peter because he thought that it was funny that they matched the product display.
I think Belle was trying to channel her inner Vanna ;-)
For some strange reason, we could not come back the same way that we came, so we/I improvised a different route back that worked just fine. Soon, we were turning into the Boardwalk!
We pulled up to the guard shack and got our first
Welcome Home and our parking permit. Onward to the valet lane, for another Welcome Home as the valet unloaded our car. He gave us a claim ticket for the car and the bags, I handed him the keys, and we headed inside to check-in. DVC members get free valet parking, so that was nice. Crashdad was sure to tip the valet.
You betcha, we got yet another Welcome Home from the guy at the check-in desk. I had everyone go sit down while I headed over to the Concierge to have the kids regular park hopper tickets added to the their new Keys to the Kingdom cards.
Our room wasnt ready yet (which we knew it probably wouldnt) so we decided to walk over to Epcot through the International Gateway (IG). Once we were through the gates, we headed left over the IG bridge toward France and then the Morocco Pavilion. We ordered a couple of schwarma platters, a falafel wrap, and some waters and then sat in the shade outside to enjoy the yummy goodness. This IS my favorite counter service in the World. I think that I could live on the Tangerine Couscous.
Lunch in our stomachs, we decided to take the boat back to the Boardwalk because the check-in guy had said that it might be ready early. When we got there it wasnt ready, though. There was a Cast Member in the lobby playing with the kids. Belle and Peter stopped to play in the cool AC for a while:
Finally, we gave up hope of the room being ready, so we decided to head to the Magic Kingdom (MK) for a possible dinner at the Liberty Tree Tavern later. No sooner had we made it to the bus depot, than I realized that we did not have the backpack. Fortuantely, the Cast Member that was playing with Peter and Belle was holding it for us. Yet another, almost lost item. It would become a theme. Trust me on this.
Magic Kingdom ended up being a bad idea. It was crazy crowded, as we managed to arrive at about 2:30.
Exhibit A:
The next hour or so is a blur of people, and
HEAT! But I did find a treasure, so to speak. I found a shop in Frontierland that had a corner with the coldest vent in all of the MK. I made a note to forward this information to a few that I knew would appreciate the info: its in the dump shop, over in the far corner by the Pal Mickey display. I stood there and played with Mickey for a few minutes. Then we picked a window space and watched the 3:00 parade (which is still at 3:00 dontchaknow?). As soon as the parade was over, we decided to head over to Aloha Isle for a Dolewhip. Yummo! Oh rats, the line was a
brazillion miles long. Suddenly, Peter asks Mom can we check to see if the room is ready now? You know that the MK is too crowded when even the kiddos dont want to be there. So, I pulled out the cell phone and called, and yes it was ready now. YAY us!
We headed out of Magic Kingdom as fast as we could, and bid farewell to the idea of dinner at Liberty Tree. No worries, I had planned for this possibility and had an ADR elsewhere just in case. We boarded the bus back to the Boardwalk and proceeded, as fast as our legs would take us, to room 5041:
Towel animal ;-)
Of course, we HAD to go check out the Boardwalk view from our balcony:
We were very pleased! I had requested upper floor, and we actually got it. Love that Boardwalk view!! I have more pics of the Boardwalk (morning and evening shots) to post later. I have picked my favorite 6 to be placed into a collage frame for our hall. We called the bellman to bring up our bags and groceries. As we put all of the items away, I noticed that the previous occupants had left a bottle of wine in the fridge. So, now we had 2 bottles of wine. I threw a load of dirty clothes in the washer and, it was time to leave to catch the Friendship Boat to the Beach Club for our dinner ADR at Cape May. Something was wrong with their buzzer system at the podium, but we still were seated fairly quickly. We all agreed that it was a good meal. This is a buffet, so there was something for everyone. Here is a shot of their clam chowder (lots of clams) and some salads:
Again, we used the DDE card when it came time to pay the bill.
With out stomachs full, we decided to walk back around Crescent Lake to the Boardwalk. We stopped to watch one of the Boardwalk street performers. This one was a juggler. He was teetering on a board that was atop a plastic tube, atop of some pvc shelving like you might use in a garage or storage closet. He had a little girl as his assistant to throw juggling pins to him. Only the sweet little girl could only throw them backward. She kept wanting to throw them overhand, but he wouldnt let he because she would have taken his head off. So after she threw a couple backwards using the underhand method. He signaled for her to turn around backwards and throw them to her that way. YAY, it worked. There were many giggles and much applause for them both!
Next it was back to the room to change into our swim suits to go conquer the Clown Pool and the Keester Coaster, AKA Pennywise *fake shudder*
Clowns do not bother me. So eventually, I did try out that slide. It was fun! Word to the wise, unless you like getting almost flipped completely over on a water slide, stay sitting up. Dont lie flat, or you build up enough speed to nearly flip you over. Also, there is a current where it dumps you out. So, if your small kiddos are not strong swimmers make sure that you have life vests on them. FYI DVC members can borrow these from the Community Hall for the duration of their trip for no charge. Peter and Belle wanted no part of the slide
yet. I am sure that will change one of these days. Of course, Jack adored it. He made some friends in the pool and off they went, over and over again. Jack is the kind of guy that can make friends anywhere and always does. He comes by that honestly.
Having conquered Pennywise and lived to tell the tale, we headed back to the room to clean up and head to bed. As we walked toward the building, we could hear the fireworks from Epcot going off. We knew that we had a big day ahead of us tomorrow. The pullout bed in the living room of the 1BR villa was queen sized. Jack, Belle, and Peter fit in it easily. With the kids all tucked into bed, Crashdad and I headed into the master bedroom, I set a wake-up call
and collapsed into our comfy king-sized bed! As I laid there, I could feel the tension just drain from my body and it felt like I was lying on a cloud somewhere in the general vicinity of Heaven. Life is indeed good!
Up Next: Jedi, Sith, Heat OH MY! Will we ever ride anything?
