I am thinking about going to Aulani next Xmas. Is there anyway I can fly direct from UK?

Only doing 10 nights so dont fancy losing a day each way due to a stopover.

You have to connect but that doesn't have to be an overnight stopover; it could be as little as a couple of hours.

AFAIK there are no direct routes from the UK to HNL. There are options for one stop on Delta via Seattle and probably some on other airlines via LAX. That is flying from London.

I went to Hawaii from London in 2005. We did a stopover in LAX on the way there and did 2 days at Disneyland. It was great. I could not do a 19+ hour flight in one go!

Thanks. I think I will go via LAX.

I have booked 2 rooms at Aulani as there were no suites available. I have also requested a 2 bed villa via dvcrequest.com. I can cancel the hotel rooms without penalty if I get the villa.

Has anybody had any experience with dvcrequest.com? I am wondering what the likelihood is of getting a villa over Xmas.

We are at Aulani now, leaving tomorrow. We have been here since 12/22 and are staying in a 2 bed villa. My brother's family is in a 1-bed villa. We booked about 10 days before arrival. We booked the villas through the hotel, not using points. It was less expensive to have a 2-bed villa than it was to have 2 regular rooms, and the villa is fantastic.

The weather was perfect for us. The high each day was about 80 degrees, and the lows were in the 70's. It was warm enough for the kids to go on the watersides at night until closing time...and it was never too hot during the day (especially since there is no humidity).

We never saw a drop of rain in the 5 days we were there. However, the CMs said that it had been raining quite a bit for the 3-4 days prior to our arrival. The day before, there had apparently been thunderstorms, during which they clear the pools and so forth.

We got lucky!

I understand that you don't want to lose time with a stop-over but having done the 'straight there' journey myself (I did it with a change at LAX), my advice would honestly be to give yourself a few days in LA to get used to the time zone difference because I really suffered with the jet lag from crossing all those time zones, which wiped out the best part of the first week for me.

Also bear in mind that connecting adds at least a couple of hours to the total journey time - when I went out I was up for 23 hours straight, which obviously didn't help the jet lag.

Obviously up to you - hope you have a good trip either way! :)
