Hi all,

I've come for a bit of advice from those of you that live in the US.

I'm going to start buying gifts for those on my forthcoming Disney cruise to go in the fish extenders, and I thought I'd get some British chocolate, as I know quite a lot of USers that really like our chocolate! ;)

I just wondered if you can tell me what sort of chocolate is exclusively British, I wanted something you can't normally get in the US?

Do you have Cadbury's and Nestle chocolates, any ideas are greatly welcomed!

Thanks in advance :thumbsup2

Hmmm now I've gotta make sure I'm allowed to take this on the plane with all these rules nowadays, I think it's okay in the hold luggage though....

We do have Cadbury and Nestle here in the US, however we don't have a big Cadbury selection. I really like the Aeros (not sure of the spelling) the ones with bubble holes throughout.

I know that food is allowed in the checked luggage over here, but you will have to worry about the heat if you are taking chocolate.

OMG! Yes! Aero bars! Especially the mint ones! Also, Crunchie bars. I love UK Smarties way better than M&Ms too. We have something called Smarties but it's not chocolate. I just finished off a batch that a friend brought from Australia. :goodvibes

We actually can get Aero bars (just plain) and Smarties (the chocolate kind) in our grocery store (in the foreign foods section- surprised the heck out of me!) Not sure if everyone can, though. Both are good choices!

Oh yes, and Kinder Surprise eggs. (Ok, I realize they are Italian, but I think I've bought them in the UK before?) They don't sell those here and are always popular when we bring them home as souveniers.

This isn't chocolate but I know I'd love some nice British shortbread cookies!!!!

I think it depends on the area you live. All of the US has a huge supply of Nestle chocolates, but Cadbury really varies. World Market near my house carries a large supply of Cadbury chocolate, including the elusive Crisp, but drugstores and grocery stores usually only carry 3 or 4 varieties. Name some other chocolates and we'll let you know if we have them!

Oh Cadbury Roses...yum! And flakes, those are fab also. Great idea!

Crunchie bars!!! And Flakes!!!

OK, technically i can get both at certain stores but they are more expensive than other chocolate and harder to find.

I understand they started marketing Wispas again too. I liked them better than Aeros.

Now I want one!

When my parents came to visit they brought English chocolate with them, so they declared it to customs, and they were specifically asked if they had kinder eggs as apparently you are not allowed to bring them into the US. I assume because the toys inside them has small parts and would be a choking hazard.

I find that the big bars of dairy milk are always a big hit with our US friends

Wow! I knew Americans didn't have Smarties, but Aero bars?

Even if you do get them something they have, it'll be better tasting.

UK Kit-Kats are a little better than Kit-Kats in Canada, but they are ALOT better than the Kit-Kats they have in the states! Whatever you choose will go over well, but I agree with the previous posters a pure chocolate bar like Aero is going to be especially good.

I'm not sure of its origin, but I know I'd never had Turkish Delight before a British friend brought some back with her. I could have done without it. I didn't much care for it. LOL But I'm sure it's a matter of personal taste. :goodvibes

Mars plant pouch, revels, aero bubbles, nestle milky bar, curly wurly and yorkie bar are all good choices. I used to like the mentolas but I think they are called something else now.

Yorkie Bars!!!!!!!!

I know these are made by Nestle, but they are so much better than any Nestle's chocolate we get in the states.

Both American made Cadbury's and Nestle chocolates are different from the British versions.

I'd go with Tobler. One ex was British & he loved British chocolates. Wouldn't touch the American stuff.

Exactly. The Cadbury stateside is not near as good as the British version.

Yum - flakes!!! we have a neighbor from the UK and they/their relatives always bring back tons of chocolate. We also have an import store at the mall.

you are so nice to do this - your chocolate is definately better!

A relative used to work for Nestle here in the US and the best Xmases were the ones when the big gift box they got included the imported stuff!!!!! (not that as a kid I would turn down the other stuff!;))

:wizard:

When we were in York, where a lot of chocolate is made, they had chocolate specials everywhere. One we really noticed was that our US Kit Kats have four sections ("fingers") and in York, they kept advertising, "Kit Kat....Fifth Finger Free!" :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

That ad would NOT have made it in America, but we did enjoy the extra section of Kit Kat bar.
