UK only Chocolate

I knew these are technically Irish, but OMG, they are one of the most amazing pieces of candy that I have ever tasted!!I had a friend bring me a box from the factory on her way back to the states. In Detroit,Customs, tried to confiscate them because of the alcohol content, so she literally scarfed down 500 grams of candy, in front of a stunned bunch of tired passengers. Sorry folks good chocolate cannot be wasted! Whatever you bring will be a treat and a nice sentiment!

definitly quality street candy that comes in a tin can. I have not found it anywhere in the USA. Its usually special order if you can find it on the internet.

When we were in York, where a lot of chocolate is made, they had chocolate specials everywhere. One we really noticed was that our US Kit Kats have four sections ("fingers") and in York, they kept advertising, "Kit Kat....Fifth Finger Free!" :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

That ad would NOT have made it in America, but we did enjoy the extra section of Kit Kat bar.

I'm confused coz our Kit Kats only have 4 fingers here too?

Maybe it was a limited edition thing or something....

We do have Cadbury and Nestle here in the US, however we don't have a big Cadbury selection. I really like the Aeros (not sure of the spelling) the ones with bubble holes throughout.

I know that food is allowed in the checked luggage over here, but you will have to worry about the heat if you are taking chocolate.

The Cadbury & Nestle in the states are 100% different!!!! (& not in a good way)

I will be stocking up after our transatlantic cruise next week to bring it back home!!!

BJ's has Quality Streets around the Christmas Holidays - we always stock up!

Also, to the poster who said Kindersurprise are not "allowed" in the US - I have found them in many many places, and brought them back myself from Switzerland and Germany (along with other "kinder" candy) - I can't imagine why you were told you couldn't bring them in!:confused3

Sounds like someone working customs knew how good those candies are and just wanted them.

Good for your friend, I would have done the same.

Cadbury from Britain is 1000% better than that this side of the Ocean! But to take something very different...Galaxy Chocolate is heavenly..Frys Turkish Delight sublime and for those that like Black Licorice Pontefract cakes are a huge hit! Now I want to gooooo........;)

When my parents came to visit they brought English chocolate with them, so they declared it to customs, and they were specifically asked if they had kinder eggs as apparently you are not allowed to bring them into the US. I assume because the toys inside them has small parts and would be a choking hazard.

I find that the big bars of dairy milk are always a big hit with our US friends

Yikes! We brought home 3 dozen Kinder eggs from Germany last summer... along with an assorted bunch of Milka bars. We even had our suitcases searched (we'd been on a farm, so got pulled aside for agricultural clearance.) I asked if the candy was ok and the inspector said it was if he got a share. (Teasing, he didn't take any.)

I think the whole choking hazard thing is absurd since it's a big ol' plastic capsule inside, but yeah that's why they can't sell them here. (Yet we can buy Fireballs, Gobstoppers, any other number of things that ARE intended to be eaten and are a choking hazard...)

Flakes, yummy. When I went to Scotland 3 years ago my sister in law had me bring her back some. I had never heard of them before, but they are tasty!!

Chocolate in the States and Canada is far different than the chocolate that is made in the UK. I love picnic bars. We have a English store here in our town and we are able to get a lot of items. I love Walkers licorice. That I love.

I know-we can get lots of English chocolate in Oakville too but SO expensive! My sister lives in the U.K and visits every year so she brings me lots...thankfully.

We have traveled throughout the UK on many vacations and York is the only place we came across the "fifth finger free" promotion. It was everywhere! Ads in store windows, commercials on TV and on radio, etc. If I heard "fifth finger free" once, I heard it a hundred times. :rotfl: I think it was in 1999. Maybe that was some anniversary year or something? :confused3
